USC has a marching band. If you are interested in being part of the USC marching band, I suggest you develop this talent and emphasize it on your application.

If you’ve got any questions about the band, I’d be happy to answer them. The marching band here at USC has been one of the best experiences in my life.

As for your chances, your grades and SATs are fine. Maybe you can do a little better on your SATs but I wouldn’t worry too much. ECs look good, it will especially help that you’re interested in journalism and are in leadership positions in newspaper and yearbook. Overall I’d say you have a pretty good chance of getting in.

well, you’re looking pretty good. your sats can be higher though.
If you attend a competitive school, then your avg is pretty nice.
good luck next year.

Oh, umm… my school’s located in the suburban area of Toronto, so I’d assume that it’s not THAT competitive like some crazy prep schools in the states… would it affect my admission badly?

USC’s admission faculty reads applications based on region/school. So, your admission officer will be an expert on your school, so he/she will know the system and grade accordingly. So, no worries! =D

I don’t know your school, but the thing is that certain schools give really high averages to mediocre students; and other schools give low averages to good students. The officers know this however, and judge you according to your school and such. So what i meant when I said “if you attend a competitive school” is that if your school gives easy grades, and 93 is average/low, then your chances are weaker. But if you attend a competitive school with tough grading, a 93 is comparatively high.

My school is the most competitive private school in the province and therefore, it is hard to obtain high grades.
Few months ago, USC’s international counselor actually visited my school (in Vancouver, Canada) and she seemed to be very close with my school counselor.
So, does this mean I gain some benefits?
