Letters of Recommendation
APUSH history teacher — (8.5/10) I was probably her best student in her class, would always raise my hand, and come in for extra help to talk to her about random history subjects. She said she really enjoyed writing my letter of rec!
AP Bio teacher — (7/10) Had my struggles in this class but eventually figured it out. Bio teacher specifically asked me if she could write my letters of rec. I said yes ofc but then she procrastinated and wrote it the day before they were due so… idk. She said it was very easy to write mine tho.
counselor — (6/10) Don’t really see my counselor all that often but me and him are dogs.
Interviews
UPenn Interview: She knew my debate coach and me and her were Vibing. It didn’t really feel like an interview and more like two chill friends having a talk about random stuff. I think I was pretty unique in my answers to her interview questions and in the question I asked of her.
Essays
common app (9/10): Wrote about a skin condition and how that made me want to become a better person so people wouldn’t judge/remember me for my skin condition but how I was as a person. Wrote about how it inspired me to do debate.

I already got deferred UPenn ED but pls chance me for top schools like Cornell, Upenn, Harvard, Williams, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, and Uchicago(ED2). I am applying to their schools of arts and sciences if they have one for economics/polisci. I am really worried about my grade dip in the midyear report affecting my chances here.

Good job having a really well pointed application!

First of all, all these schools are extremely selective, but you definitely have a chance.

I hear you talk a lot about debate, and that is a pretty good prerequisite for polisci

I would maybe suggest to align ur app with debate more? My friend who went to brown was debate captain but doesn’t seem as talented than you (if u are top 100)

I think debate is one of the highlights of ur app so def shine that through

As for your interview, I believe it is really good if you were able to make that vibing bond :+1::+1:

Make sure u keep in touch with your interviewer!

I hope you do well and don’t stress too much over it and try to enjoy ur new year

Whether you get in or not, pursue ur polisci passion wherever you go, because you have a strong background for polisci

I believe you will do well in life no matter ur college!

These fields compose much of the foundation for a public policy major. Along these lines, some of these schools may be of interest to you should you want to refine your list:

You may not get in even if you didn’t have a grade dip.

So what ? Your record is awesome. Their loss.

Which assured admissions do you have?

No reason to worry. Just plan properly.

Econ and Poli Sci - you can do great things from most every school.

You’ve got a great record - you’ve done what you can.

So feel good about that. You seem a winner and that’s more important than where you study.

Good luck.

Btw natl merit semi - dud u apply to any schools that allow you to take advantage ?

You have a chance at all of them, and might wind up rejected from all of them. Your family income will leave you full pay at Rutgers and TCNJ, which you should apply to as safeties and financial safeties. And you REALLY should apply to Alabama and other schools which give full rides for NMF (make sure to apply for finalist status, too), because you’ll save your family at least 150K over what they’d have to pay for your in-state flagship.

Reality sucks, so hope for the best (you obviously are, with all those reaches), but plan for the unfortunate reality, which means well-considered financial and academic safeties. The deadline for submission of all materials at Alabama is Jan 15th.

It is MORE than a full ride, and tons of other NMF/NMSF go there now, because of the full ride, meaning that you’ll meet plenty of your academic peers there. Wouldn’t it be nice to come out of college with NO debt, especially if you’re majoring in something that will probably lead to low paid or even unpaid internships and eventually law school?

Yes I applied to schools that give aid for national merit semifinalists
