Chance a flailing soul for scholars/RD

Money is kind of an issue; what are my chances for scholars?

GPA: 3.77 UW (upward trend)
Class Rank: top 14%
SAT: 2340 superscore (800 CR and W, 740 M)
SAT II: 710 US History
AP: 4 on Calc AB, 5 on World, US History, US Gov, Lit, Lang, and Bio
IB: 39 point diploma, 7/6/5 on HL’s (these are not projected scores – I received my diploma early through my high school’s gifted program)
Current Schedule: community college IR and public speaking classes (finished all AP/IB humanities courses), AP Statistics and AP Environmental Science, internship class
Awards: nothing fancy, the usual National Merit Semifinalist and AP Scholar with Distinction goop

EC’s:

 • psychology research assistant at local university lab
 • 3 years of debate, founder/captain, first in state and top-15 at national tournaments
 • 4 years of flute, All-State and such
 • freelance graphic and web designer
 • helped to organize and run a youth battle of the bands event, raising over $8000 for local arts education

Recs: great
Essays: pretty good

I think you definitely have a shot for RD. For Emory Scholars, it’s really impressive that you already got your IB Diploma through a gifted program, but your other stats seem pretty ordinary for Emory Scholars. I guess it’ll really all depend on the essays :)

proximanova, based on your SAT scores and class rank, I think you have a great shot at getting into Emory RD. You have a strong schedule and good ECs. Depending on your essays I think you have a decent chance at scholars. Also, if money is an issue, there is always need-based aid.

I am sorry but I will have to disagree, I think you have a decent chance (strong side of decent) to be admitted but I do not think you have as strong of a case for Emory Scholars. Most of the scholars I talked to came to Emory INSTEAD of a ivy because of the program (which is what it is designed to do). Again it is all up to the admissions readers and scholars committee. I would like to point out Emory’s “Advantage” program if you have not already looked at it (google it)! 100% of demonstrated need is just the beginning.
