Chance a guy with a devoted career.

Hello, I would just like to say first I’m not the normal applicant, or so I would think. Ever since I was a frosh, I had been interested in one and only one thing: Surgery. I wanted to be a surgeon (Not a general surgeon, I mean like orthopedic surgeon) and have pursued what I think are EC’s centered on the medical world. Details later in this.

Freshman Year:
-CP Geometry (Skipped Algebra 1)
-CP Physics
-Honors History
-CP English 1
-German I
Notes: Easy classes, I know, and I got a perfect 4.0 UW.

Sophomore Year:
-CP Algebra II
-AP Chemistry (5) (First person to jump from a CP science class to an AP one)
-AP World History (5)
-Honors English II
-German II
Notes: Again, a perfect 4.0 UW and 5’s on the AP tests) I also took CP Pre-calculus over the summer.

Junior Year:
-AP Statistics (5)
-AP Biology (5)
-AP US History (5)
-AP English Language (5)
-AP Microeconomics (5)
-German III
Notes: Once again it’s a 4.0 UW and all 5’s. (Most Rigorous Course load)

Senior Course Load:
-AP Calculus BC
-AP Physics B
-Honors Anatomy
-AP Psychology
-AP English Literature
-German IV Honors
Notes: Of course it’s yet to be determined, but so far I have an A in each class.

I also am taking a Biology and Ecology in a local Community College

(My intended Major is Biology, of course)

For the core Stats:

UW GPA: 4.0
Weighted GPA: ??

SAT1: 780 Math / 790 Writing / 790 Reading (2360 total)
SATII: 800 Biology-E, 800 Chemistry, 780 Math II, 800 World History

Class rank: Top 5% (I would assume that out of 600, I am in the top 10)

Extra-Curricular Activities:

-JV XC Sophomore year, Varsity XC Junior and Senior year (Captain)
(Couldn’t do it freshman year because of family issues)

-JV Track Freshman year, Varsity Track Sophomore-Senior year (Or at least I will do track, and will make the Varsity team)
-Science League (Chemistry II Sophomore year, Bio II Junior year, Physics II this year)
-Future Medical Professions Club (Officer, sort of like president) 9-12
-Debate Team (Founder, President) 11-12
-German Club (Officer) 9-12
-Video Club (Lead Producer) 9-12
-Ski Club (9-11, will do 12, purely for fun)
-National Honors Society (10-12)

Outside of school:

-Volunteered at a hospital for 4 years now, (as expected) I was allowed to watch several surgeries in process, which was very exciting. (Not trauma based)
-I take golf lessons at an expensive country club (I have taken them since freshman year) During summer/spring
-I wrote two reports concerning cancer and neurology. The one on neurology I gave to many friends in the hospital and they claimed it was phenomenal. It basically discusses many functions and parts of the brain, diseases/disorders of the brain, of which I look at and suggest a method of treatment or halting as well as provide a way to calculate your odds of acquiring some hereditary or environment related diseases. It was written it during my freshman year. It is a good 50+ pages in length. The one on cancer isn’t finished yet.

Other important information:

-As far as Yale and Harvard go, I don’t have any legacies. BUT:
-My Uncle’s friend, who is my friend, now, is a surgeon who graduated from Yale. I have talked with him since I was a freshman and he knows me to be a gifted person with great interest in my field. He says he will write a letter to Yale strongly recommending me, saying I would be a perfect fit for the class.
-And as for Harvard, my mother is friends with a Harvard grad, and she him about me and he is very impressed. If I apply, he will write a letter of recommendation to Harvard as well.

-My essay is in my opinion profound. I wrote about how my grandmother was slowly dying in the hospital which is where I became interested in medicine.

Ethnicity: White (French and Scottish)
Gender: Male

Please think if I’ll make:
-John Hopkins University
-Princeton University
-Yale
-Harvard
-Upenn
-Rutgers
-Cornell

What do you want people to say? It’s more than likely you’ll get into where you want to go! It’s clear you have good chances. Distinguish yourself somehow, that’s the key.

I figured I stood out enough with my reports and devotion to my subject area. :3

Solid chances; all you need now is luck.

Your stats are very good, but at least half of the schools you picked require something incredible from a non-URM, unhooked person. A couple reports, one which you gave to some friends and one which is unfinished probably aren’t going to cut it. But you might luck out. Rutgers, obviously, is probably an “in.” Just my opinion.

Plus, touting the number of pages in the report sounds a little silly to me. As does the bit about an “expensive” country club. I’d leave that out.

haha, you are clearly a devoted person.
keep up that devotion when you do your college apps (which I highly doubt you wouldn’t) and everything will go as planned.

Chance threads don’t really mean anything other than people just like you getting impressed and telling you comforting words. Believing in yourself is more important than any one else’s words
