So, anybody think I have a good shot? Are homeschoolers generally disliked at most colleges?

Can your mom actually write the rec? I thought family members can’t write them, although being a homeschooler might be an exception.

As for your chances, I don’t see something that sets you apart from others. You know what I mean?

I would recommend knowing anything and everything about Yale now. lol (of course, not to that extent, but I mean research the college thoroughly)

Not gonna happen, sorry.

I thought I was kinda different in the fact that I was homeschooled, yet still extremely comparable to other students through AP work, and didn’t just make the most of the opportunities around me, but instead created nearly all the extracurriculars I was involved in. Notice the “founder” mark on nearly every EC. And violistchan, I’m not sure why I should research Yale thoroughly when idk if I even have a good shot. Seems like it could be a real waste of time lol.

Also, forgot two ECs

Teen Eagles (President of Education Committee)
Fine Films Club (for fun with friends mostly, but still, Founder, President)

Hmm… where were these clubs founded?

UNICEF club takes a community organization, aka. my church. Youth in Action can be formed by any 5 youth, so really just my friends, meet at my house, etc. Leadership Committee, at church, all i had to do was ask Youth pastor, etc. FBLA you don’t need a school, so founded chapter with homeschool organization. Honor Society, all you need is an advisor and people who want to do it, verify with the organization, and you’re done. Math society, same as regular Honor one. Teen Eagles, already there. And I believe that’s all the clubs I mentioned.

I also thought that the teaching literature was fairly different. I mean I actually teach it. Assignments, grades, discussions, etc. I thought that was at least kinda significant.

So basically 90% of your ECs are made up?
Wow.
No chance.

If you haven’t noticed by now, lolk1lol is just messing with you. :stuck_out_tongue: Don’t listen to him or her.

None of them are “made up”. I “founded” them. All my ECs associated with a national organization are verifiable and meet up to the standards set by those organizations. The others are either associated with a local or regional association or founded by myself and friends. I thought that creating opportunities rather than following the crowd would have made me stand out. There was no FBLA group for homeschoolers. Now there is. There was no honor society here. Now there is. There was no UNICEF club in my area. Now there is. The list goes on. I created opportunities for myself and others. And if a college such as Yale is not impressed with this, I’m not sure what else I could have done. Without “making up” (as you would call it) many of my EC’s, my only few would be piano, tennis, a bit of drama, and debate. Does that sound more impressive? I would think not. If you were in my position, what would you have done? I thought colleges don’t look for people who are great in a great environment, but people who make the absolute most of their given environment. I thought I made the most of my environment by creating opportunities, but please, enlighten me as to what I should have done instead.

First of all gone to a public school for starters.
Second, how do you not get a 4.0 at “home school”.
Some real ECs? I mean actual acheivements.
2220? 2300 atleast!
Subject tests should be 800s.

Yale takes only the top of the cream of the crop.
Your just the cream.

@calebscool: Don’t feed the ■■■■■. :P

Calebscool, Yale is a reach for everyone…but you seem to have as good a chance as anyone else.

Home schooling isn’t a cake walk, a friend of mine was home schooled until sophomore year and switched back to home schooloing after sophomore year because he was more challenged and able to work at a faster pace when home schooled.

You’ve obviously learned quite a bit and work hard from looking at your many ap scores! And I think your clubs are great especially if you can show how they impacted your community.

Good Luck!

Nothing shining in your app but I’m not reading your file.

All in all you have good enough academics to be considered but I can’t really see any reason, from what you’ve provided, to admit you over other accomplished students. Try to do something unique in your last couple of months. Still, who knows, perhaps you’ll really speak to the adcoms.

Yale: Reach (in contention but nothing extraordinary)

Come to think of it, I don’t really think making a club at your house is really fair for the kids who actually competed with others to get positions at clubs in school. Just my opinion, hopefully not the opinion of Yale.

Yeah, I don’t think it’s all that fair either. Yet I still wanted to do all those EC’s I founded, so was i just supposed to wait around for a club to form by itself? I didn’t really have a choice lol. And is Table Tennis unique? What about caddying at a country club? Volunteering at the St. Louis science center? These are things I’m considering over the summer. Finally, if i’m not unique enough for Yale, what schools would be good one’s to apply to given my stats?

Do something unique, or you’ll just be another app in the pile…

^^You could join clubs in your community and rise up in them. I just think it’s rather ridiculous for you to start a club at your house, invite some friends, and suddenly have an extracurricular. You see what I mean? You could have taken some courses at a high school, thus allowing you to join clubs. There are a number of options.

How do you get a gpa if your home schooled?

@bsmd11 does it say something about me that I always see your username and accidentally read it as BDSM11?
