You know, there was a girl in my school with a slightly lower GPA who survived leukemia and was accepted to Cal this year. Actually, she was accepted at all the UCs. So if you come across as honest and sincere in your essays, I’m sure you will have a decent shot at your listed schools. :)

write great essays and you’ll be accepted everywhere

make sure you apply for special scholarships; i think there is one from the leukemia society etc

if you wanna go to an ivy apply, you have a great story to tell and i think you have a good shot

For Davis, the Average GPA was a 4.0, so you are below in that area. You’re slightly above in the SAT area.

The top 7% only matters if that were top 5%.

If you have great essays, you’ve got a decent shot. All below UCI you should get in. Good luck.

dont worry about it. Just write an amazing personal statement!
colleges love the upward grade trend and you were able to do it while fighting against a major illness. I’m sure you’ll do perfectly fine. As for myself (class of 2009), I only had a 1900 SAT also… and a 3.375 UCW. I also have incredible life challenges and decent extra curricular… I was admitted to UCD, UCSD, UCSC, UCSB… which is pretty incredible for a 3.375 weighted… lol! UCB and UCLA sent me interesting questionnares… but I was still rejected after doing them. Best wishes! :D

Just a note of caution - a great essay will not necessarily be enough to get in. xcrunner1478 is wrong, great essays are not everything. They make up one portion of the admission process, and cannot make up for other deficiencies.

That being said, you do have an ok chance of getting in (it’s just not a sure thing). The gpa will hurt you a little bit, but not drastically.

*Try to spell things correctly online… We aren’t in a chat room. You want people to take you seriously. : )

yeah essays aren’t everything, and it’s EXTREMELY hard to write a spectacular essay, but i still believe you have a great chance into getting into good schools. i too, have faced many hardships throughout high school, including the death of my father and family problems, and i was given the same advice on this forum when i was really scared that my 3.3 UC GPA and 1980 SAT wasn’t gonna get me into the schools i was aiming for, but they do make a huge difference when you have faced something as drastic as cancer. I have heard some stories of how this guy from my previous year wrote this wonderful essay about the definition of zero and how it related to his life or something and he got into soo many places. my cousin wrote about how he dealed with brain cancer and how it changed his life and got into many schools as well. my point is, you have had a crazy experience that not many have faced and although it is one you may wish you never experienced bc of all the pain and fear and so much more, make sure you use it to your advantage and tell them your story. i did get into my dream school, usc,and other schools like chapman and got a supplement from ucb, but i didnt get into some schools like uci or ucsb. i guess my essays sounded great to some who liked my personality and character and not good enough to others, but give it a shot since you never know what can happen. I’m not saying that just because you write an amazing essay you’ll get in and they dont look at your other stats, they do but it’s still possible to get admitted into a prestigious university. give it a shot. def apply to some ivy’s that your interested in.

and btw, you are a courageous and strong individual to successfully fight against cancer, you should be realy proud of yourself. my father had leukemia as well so i know what you went through. aim high :)

anyone else??..ill chance back
