do i really look like a ■■■■■ guys? for all you know, a 2400 score probably makes it harder to get into ivy’s, b/c it makes you look like the stereotypical asian kid and all that…

thank you for your honesty! esp in this kind of climate, i don’t want to end up applying for a bunch of schools which will ultimately reject me lol…

in terms of community service, i’ve done ~50 hours through the library (shelving books and tutoring little kids) and ~150 hours through the ensemble (playing at senior centers… this is my third year).

You dont need to be in sport. Play up your writing/music awards…that seems to be your ‘passion’…ucla/ucb should be match as long as you write a decent essay. Write something about playing music at the senior center. Yes those are good volunteering stuff. Being part of ensemble/band takes a lot of time and commitment…Adcoms know that. Newsletter writing is good too.

Hmm. Your SAT is VERY good. GPA seems fine. Even (contrary to what people have said) your ECs are good since they show your passion.
I guess it would be good if you could get an internship to add some work experience?
Then youd be good to go. Btw, dont you do any sports?
All the best!

Lol, my testing record is eerily similar to yours (look at my chance thread if you don’t believe me).

Anyway, your list of schools is really unbalanced. UCSD and USD are very easy to get into and HYPSC… are extremely difficult. With your scores and EC’s, you should aim more in the middle. I think you’d have a great shot a UChicago, Cornell, Johns Hokpins, etc. just based on your academics.

As for as your current list goes:

HYPSC - Not worth predicting. Every one of them is a crapshoot because you’re an Asian male.
UPenn, Columbia - Definitely possible, but you would need some more EC’s.
CMC, Amherst - Better than the above two, but still in the low reach area.
Don’t worry about the others, you’re definitely in at them.

hey there:) I’m also a junior, and you seem like you’ve definitely got a good start! I’m starting SAT prep and I’m not near a 2400, so thats really impressive! Anyways, I think academically you are definitely good for all of the schools you listed above. Although, I think you should really work on making your ECs stand out if you want to go to some of your reach schools. You have volunteer hours, but they don’t seem to be concentrated in one area that you may be passionate in. I think it shows that you are a person with passion and a want for change in the world if you don’t just volunteer, but you do it for something you care deeply about. Making sure that colleges know that you have a passion and you are gonna make change in the future is definitely an important aspect. Find what you love and pursue it, not because of college apps, but because you care. Whatever it is, if you spend time pursuing that passion, and making a difference in the world, colleges will take note. So basically, just add to your E.Cs! You have time to do so Good luck! And if you have time I’d love for you to help me out as well!

Woah, it’s not like you’re a junior…you still have plenty of time to amp up your coursework next year, and get some good EC’s in this AND next year.
get an internship over the summer. what are your academic interests? start pursuing them.
