they’re pretty good

alum interviewer? best tip i can give you: alum interviewers are doing this for the school because they obviously love it…stay away from the generic stuff and go straight for things that will spark memories of their college experience. you can do this through either having already visiting or if you’ve researched enough. talk about some places to eat. if you don’t know anything, ask them. then mention your cousin or a friend noted to you “rotiers”, “loveless cafe”, “noshville”, “satco”. get their take on those places. do they have any great memories? that’ll leave some good impressions

vanderbilt is known for being a top academic school were people are actually social and personable and i can guarantee you an alum will probably write in a little special section for you if you portray those characteristics through having an actual conversation as opposed to an interview about numbers

Thanks for the advice.

your grades are going to hurt.
Your ACT is within range, so that’s fine
the most impressive part is your research at U Mich. Your leadership will also help.
I’d give you a 50-50

I’m not sure your grades will hurt you. I think I know where you go to school, and I am guessing your school profile will help you as far as grades are concerned. A 4.0 at one school isn’t the same as a 4.0 at another school, and good colleges can see the difference (except UMich, but that’s another story  ).

Thanks! By the way I just had the interview and it went really well. Not sure how much weight it carries though. Luckily my grades didn’t hurt me too much for Umich, but I did have to wait longer to hear than other people.
