Chance a Nervous High School Junior!

I just really want to know which schools I should apply for next year so
Some schools I want to go to are Notre Dame, UNC Chapel, USC, etc but I really don’t know if I have the stats to make it :frowning:

I’m currently a Junior so these stats will change I assume
I have taken the most rigorous courses possible
Background: Asian Male, Lower 30% Income Bracket
GPA: 3.76 UW, 4.4 W
Rank: 43/540 (very competitive mid-upper class high school)
SAT: 1560, I am taking subject tests this coming spring (Math 2, Lit, APush)
PSAT: 1470
Major: Sociology

  • I have taken over 7 Sociology classes at my local community college
    State: California

EC:
President of Science Olympiad
President of a club that reaches out and raises money for SoCal orphans
Leadership position in a volunteer group that plays music for retirement homes (over 100 hours)
Have tutored homeless children for about a year now
3 Years in my school’s television program (we win a couple awards at a national competition every year)

  • Through this program, I was able to work on a segment with PBS that is currently on one of their websites!
5 Years in youth orchestra for my city
    2 Years of JV Lacrosse
    200+ Hours of Volunteer Hours
Currently a Recipient of the Silver Volunteer Service Award

Honestly, many of my ECs are so different from one another, and I know that colleges really want students to have a focus on one or two specific aspects. I would really appreciate it if you guys could give me some realistic college choices so I know which schools I should apply to next year. It doesn’t help that I had a very, very bad 2nd-semester last year because of some very extenuating circumstances (evictions, had to stay at aunt’s house which is 2 hours away from my school for some time, etc) Thank you

  1. Why those schools? what the main things that are important to you in choosing a college?
  2. What really matters *to you* in your ECs?

For sociology you might look into Vassar, Hamilton, Pitzer, Connecticut College.

Hi, thanks for replying!
So in response to your first question, I chose schools that have a decent sociology department, but are also pretty good in other areas. Sociology is something I find really enjoyable at the moment, but I don’t really know if I would still enjoy it as I go onto college so I want to keep my options open.
However, I really don’t know how to answer the second question, as it is something I am trying to figure out myself. I definitely have a passion for volunteering and helping out others, but I also did enjoy working with PBS to create that segment. It’s really a jumble for me right now :frowning:
