*My essays will be very quirky/witty, since I know that UoC tends to like those essays…

Be gentle.

Here’s what I see:
– Your SAT scores are very high. Very very very high. Much higher than mine were.
– You have a great class rank.
– You’re involved in a bunch of cool extracurricular activities, which look more broad and time-consuming than mine were.

All of these things will make you a serious candidate for admission, but I think that any admissions officer is going to want to hear a lot more about you before making a decision. Your essay doesn’t have to be quirky or witty or amusing or involve koala bears-- in fact, if funny or witty or extravagant isn’t your thing, you probably shouldn’t write that way.

My uncommon essay was about a pretty boring topic (me) and something that every applicant does (school). It was in many ways the fact of writing the essay (both the challenge of integrating the prompt and the resulting essay) that indicated that Chicago was the right school for me.

Anyway, if Chicago is your first choice school, go for it, and best of luck!!! And don’t worry so much; you’re in good shape.

Thanks unalove, I feel much better about admissions now! :D

My SAT’s were almost exactly the same as yours (2210), and so were my SAT II’s! They don’t look at your SAT II’s though, so don’t worry about those at all. Your GPA looks good, so just write the best essays you can and you’ll be fine.

Don’t try to write essays that you think UC is looking for. Just write as well as you can in the style your comfortable with, and you will do great!

Wait… UC doesn’t look at SAT II’s??

According to the college board, chicago does not require sat II’s

“Not requiring” and “not looking” are not necessarily the same thing. At least my understanding is that the SAT II tests arrive in the same package as the SATs. So what I think that means for you guys is that if your scores are decent, they’re neither going to count for or against you. If they are suspiciously low (and by “suspiciously low” I’m thinking under a 500) then maybe there might be some more questions.

SAT II’s are really wacky, and some are either on wicked curves, don’t cover material that you learned in class, ask bizarre questions, etc. etc. etc. so if you perform well in AP/college level/honors classes, AP exams, etc. I think those probably override the SAT II. I’m just remembering how my older brother did extremely well on the US History AP and was so confident in his work that he went on to take the US History SAT II, where he got a not-amazing score.

Hamburgler: my ultimate goal here is to make you not worried about college admissions. One of CC’s weaknesses is that it collects all of these overhyped and overexerted high school students together and somehow makes them believe they are not “good enough.” I’m just here to remind you that in the big picture, you should feel extremely blessed to be as smart and as capable as you are, regardless of Chicago admissions!

i had higher SATs than you and got in (not trying to brag) and my friend who had below you (2140) didn’t. but, i would say you have above average chances.

are you sure you got 2200? lol…

You look pretty good lol
