Bump!

Anyone? Please.

I’ll say that on first look, your SAT scores are low for some of the schools you are looking at. The general rule of thumb is that if you are OOS from a traditional recruiting area, your scores need to be much higher than average.

What that means is that Penn State is a definite reach for you. There are plenty of kids from New York applying there whose stats are higher. Florida is also a reach, because its OOS population is very low and the admission standards are ridiculous these days.

You scores are low for UConn, but still in range. I would not say that admission is guaranteed, but you have a good chance. James Madison and Virginia Tech already have built-in pools of amazing Virginia students, so your chances are slightly lower than for UConn. The one thing that is both an advantage and a disadvantage for you is that you are from New York. The schools will see it as a source of OOS tuition and diversity, but may question whether you will actually attend a school so far from home.

Your best bets are South Carolina and Clemson. Your scores are within range for both schools and New York is a huge target for recruiting to all SC schools. The school you choose will depend on which campus you prefer (town or city) and your major. South Carolina has a better selection of top programs, but Clemson is better in agriculture and engineering. You will find that each school has 5-10% of its freshman class from the tri-state area and 30-40% from OOS.

Sorry for the grim news, but I hope that helps you.

Thank you so much! I know I didn’t put up any schools that I thought I would definitely get into. But, why is that SC wants New Yorkers?
