Chance a Singapore student

Hi guys. I am a Junior College year 2 student studying in Singapore. I am not Singaporean but have lived in Singapore for over 12 years; still a foreigner, not a PR.

My situation is slightly different in the sense that I have yet to take my SAT I (2nd attempt) and SAT II and sit for my prelims (for predicted grades). Also, I have not undertaken a ‘rigorous courseload’- I take 3 H2s and 1H1 (the minimum of 10 Academic Units). However, could we work on the assumption that I get the grades as I predict below with excellent essays and recs? I am fairly confident of achieving these grades- my only worry being the lack of an H3 suject hence making my courseload fairly regular.

A level predicted grades:

H1 General Paper A
H2 Mathematics A
H2 Chemistry A
H2 Physics A
H1 Economics A

Project Work A
M.T C

SAT I (estimate): 2250+
SAT II (estimate): Math 2, Phy 2, Chem 2: 750 each.

E.Cs:
-Captain of Debate team
-Student editor of publications
-member of an external non-profit debate organisation : have organised workshops in schools

other leadership positions:
-Class chairman
-Orientation group leader

Please chance me for NYU, Yale and Michigan.

Also, is it a necessity to take 4 H2s and H3 subjects for admission into Ivies? Successful S’pore applicants please advise. Thank you for reading this rather incomplete profile (will be posting a complete one in the future).

Do you want to get scholarships&FA&c? Applying for FA affects your applications very much, since you are not a domestic student.
Assuming you don’t need FA and have those predicted scores, I think NYU is a high match, Yale’s high reach, Michigan, if you mean Michigan State, is a safety. :p

You will probably get 800s for Math, Physics and Chemistry SAT IIs. It really is not that hard and the curves are easier.

Yale is a very high reach.
NYU Stern is a low reach.
NYU (excluding Stern and the Arts school) is a high match.
Michigan Ann Arbor is a low-mid match.

I assume you do not need FA.

Thx for replying dawncoming and frankchn! Yea I won’t be applying for FA neither do I see any prospects of obtaining a scholarship. Sorry, I meant Michigan Ann Arbor.

Is anyone aware of Ivies accepting non H3 S’pore applicants? Is taking H3s the only illustration of a ‘rigorous courseload’? Of course, Ivies is a very far long shot for someone of my academic and even extracuricular credentials but I am hopeful. Currently stumped on how to better differentiate myself from all those scholarly and competitve S’pore applicants. Simply demonstrating character and zeal does not get one in, I suppose? =P

Frankly, the attendance of a normal JC might have hurt you a tad, if it were me, I’d be attending UWC or preferably SAS, especially if you’re looking at American Universities.

Your nationality would matter, say if you’re a Scottish or German but lived in a South East Asian country like Singapore, that would be a plus. They’re pretty much big on international kids as I’ve learned.

And no, if you were to compete with Singapore applicants, you don’t really stand a big chance, at all. Unless there’s a hook you have, I’d say it should be healthier for you stop labouring over Yale at least.

If you won’t mind chancing me back, thanks. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/961457-dont-want-stuck-help.html

In fact, 12 academic units (however you make it up) is the demonstration of a rigorous course load in Singaporean terms. Demonstrating character and zeal might get you in but it is hard to bring that across without a fantastic essay, teacher recommendations and hopefully a bit of ECs to back it up.

Thx for replying!
