NYU Stern (applying ED)
USC
UCLA (oos)
Carnegie Mellon (ED II)
Umich at Ann Arbor

NYU Stern- Reach (There’s nothing business related on your application)
USC- Reach (but possible)
UCLA- I don’t know how much being oos impacts chances (if it’s a pro or con) but I would say high match
Carnegie Mellon- Low reach
UMich Ann Arbor- Low reach

I think that your biggest plus would be your SATs but your class rank isn’t that impressive and neither is your GPA. I don’t really see any passion in your ECs and you haven’t been involved with them for all of high school.

A couple of questions: Have you taken APs? What are your subject test scores? Are you taking the most demanding courses available to you?

Yeah, my schedule is the most demanding available. I haven’t been involved with them for all of high school, because I moved high schools after freshman year. My high school only started allowing clubs when I was a junior, because it is brand new.

Ok that makes a lot of sense and your ECs seem stronger. If you are going to do NYU ED then definitely convey your passion for the school through your essays and how your ECs have inspired you to want to pursue a career in business

Alright, and is my rank really that bad?

My graduating class is about 150 and my counselor told me that in a class of that size it isn’t good to have a lower rank than the top 3. I don’t think it will kill you but in a class that size it isn’t considered amazing.

UCLA and NYU are reaches, they’re extremely competitive and you really need an above 4.0 GPA to have a really decent shot at those schools. however your SAT may compensate, plus good essays can make or break an application. you have great activities too. idk about the other schools sorry lol but i’d apply to some back ups to be safe

I’m not that familiar with these schools, but besides NYU Stern, which I heard is a top school for business and therefore may be a reach, I think you’ll have a good chance at those colleges you listed.

The problem is, I don’t know the rigor of your school, csokane. For the very top high schools, a lower rank may be perfectly okay, but if it is a mediocre high school, then you’ll need better rank, etc. I also can’t judge from your GPA because different schools have different grading curves and levels of grade inflation. A good way of determining your chance is to consult your guidance counselor on the admission results of past students at your high school: did those with similar stats as yours get into the colleges you’re looking at? That’s a way to find out about your “chance”.

@ChandlerBing92: My UC gpa is a 4.18. Also,I don’t think you need a 4.0 to have a decent shot.

@xrCalico23: I’m going to be a part of my school’s first graduating class. =/

^oops, I missed it while skimming through your post the first time.:o

I’ve gotten so many mixed responses concerning Stern. It’s really starting to worry me.
