Chance A Struggling Sophomore

@nambugoldstone Yeah, I’m probably going to get a 34 on my ACT

@BearHunter44 Is that site accurate?

Your gpa is a bit low but you have good ECs to balance that out. If you get that 34 ACT your in good shape.
U Penn is a reach while JHU, Duke, and maybe Notre Dame are low reaches. The rest are either high matches or just plain matches

All of them are high matches/reaches. Make sure you take the most rigorous schedule and get GREAT grades. It’ll be like an upward trend

@BB8764 Yes I have gotten an upward trend. I am also taking the really rigorous schedule. I will be the only one in my school next year taking 3 Science classes and 1 lab.

Hi Everyone,

I recently applied to UF for the Sociology program in the Fall 2014. My current overall GPA is a 2.68 and my preq GPA is a 3.15. I know i checked online for the transfer requirement were 2.5 overall and preq 2.75. What are my chances of being accepted? I put on my application that i have some classes still in progress. I check my application everyday! It recently said a couple of days ago that my application is being referred to the college for a final decision. I would love some feed back. I am so nervous!

@FloridaG33 what?

Thanks for the chance!
As others have written, it’s hard to judge this early in the game, especially without concrete standardized testing scores.
JHU-High Match
Duke-Low Reach
Notre Dame-Match
Tufts-Match
Emory-Match
Penn State-Low Match
Pitt-Low Match
Penn-Low Reach

Best of luck!

“struggling”

You seem to be doing well, I wouldn’t sweat it.

I don’t know what would be the point to taking 3 sciences at once. Don’t neglect to be strong in all the core areas

Well if you feel as if you CAN score high on testing, try the SAT

@aHashtag I was going to take the SAT but I could not manage to score more than 1980. This was with a Kaplan SAT prep-test that my school offered.

Without a concrete test score it is hard to tell. Also, you do not have a great deal of leadership shown which is important to a lot of top colleges. Get that 34, finish high school with a 3.8 unweighted, and show leadership and dedication to a few select clubs and all those schools will be within reach.

If you get the 34, you’re looking great for Penn State and Pitt (I’m assuming your safeties), NotreDame will be a low reach and and the rest will be reaches because they’re reaches for anybody…

First, stop wasting time practicing the ACT. Get a good score, but don’t stress over a 32 (still a great score). What seems more important for you is focusing yourself. Your ECs seem to be all over the place, and don’t seem to show a passion (which it seems most top tier colleges are currently looking for). Also, make sure to take a rigorous course load in both your junior and senior years. Colleges highly value a student who takes advantage of the resources available to them, and taking high level courses show that you will do so. Try to improve your GPA, but remember that a 3.7 UW with several APs is much better than a 4.0 UW with no APs. I honestly cannot tell you your chances at the schools you want to apply to, as there is not enough information, but if you continue to be a strong student and find a passion at your school, then I feel that you will have great chances when you apply.
