<p>ECs: Almost all cheerleading (well, the significiant ones). Cheered on world-ranked all-star cheer teams and my HS team. About 15 hours a week, 52 weeks a year.
Volunteerism: Tons. Well over 600 hours, including your standard work (Animal Shelter, stuff with NHS, yada yada yada) and organizing four different fundraisers through my business. The fundraisers were recognized by the Entrepreneur Council of my county.
Work Experience: Own my own international business w/ a philanthropic side. The business is directly tied back into cheerleading. 7% of my profits go toward a scholarship for unprivileged cheerleaders. 100% of the profits from certain products go to charity. This was a pretty big part of my application; for my Common App main essay, I wrote all about how I started my business, how I built it up and then the charity side of it.
Awards: Presidential Gold Service Award (500+ hours community service), Congressional Service Award, Meritorious Service Award, AP Scholar w/ Honor, Maryland Distinguished Scholar, 4x Academic Letter, 3x Varsity Letter…just getting into insignificant things now haha.</p>
<p>Teacher Recommendations: One was very personal, one talked about me as a student. Above average, but nothing earth shattering.
Counselor Recommendation: Absolutely fabulous. Brought my mama to tears (but then again, what doesn’t?). But seriously, this was really really great. The term “academic superstar” was used…I wouldn’t use that to describe myself but hey, if she feels that way, I’m all for it!</p>
<p>I was already accepted to Texas A&M (auto admit because of SAT scores), Georgia Tech and UNC Chapel Hill with Roberston Scholars Semi-Finalist status (did not apply to be a Finalist).</p>

<p>And Duke…little blurb on this one: I applied ED for Duke and was deferred. While (painfully) aware that it’s completely unrealistic to expect that I still have a chance, I did some new stuff since my deferral. In total, I had 6 letters of recommendation go to Duke (LOL), one of which was a very personal letter from the Dean of Students at Hood College where I took a math class last semester. Since my deferral, I also received the Presidential Gold Service Award and Congressional Service Award. I also wrote a love letter to Duke (along the lines of a Why Duke essay, but this time I instead focused on why Duke should want me, not why I want them. They already know they are fabulous 
). In the letter, I also stated that I am still 100% committed to Duke and would enroll if accepted. Not sure if that will help. I’m also a Legacy at Duke. </p>
