<p>I’m just saying, my friend isn’t at all “Asian” in that he doesn’t do any science-y/math things, totally uninterested in that field. And, he’s taking almost no APs.</p>

that said i think your friend is a reach/low reach for all the places you listed except for USC, which imo might be a higher reach- i think the GPA is what hurts him the most so if he can boost that (he still has junior year, yes?) then his chances go up dramatically</p>

<p>Yes, it’s borderline racism that’s also practiced by adcoms. I’m not condoning it (I’m half Asian myself), but be realistic.</p>

<p>With that said, it sounds like your friend’s very passionate about music/the arts. Lots of those schools are more number-based than anything else, but I think that if your friend can convey his passion through essays/other methods, he will be a strong contender at USC.</p>

<p>Guys, there’s a difference between racism and stereotyping.</p>

<p>Racism is an intolerance or hatred of a person based on their race. Stereotyping is taking a group of characteristics of people and applying it to everybody of their “type” - like Asians piano/APs, black people track/dance.</p>

<p>^TOO MANY TO COUNT (I know, I am one)! Have you seen Japanese pop-locking or Korean hip-hop? Dance+Asian is a much more common combination than people think, only because many of them also excel academically, being strong in math/sciences.</p>

<p>Japanese poppers are ridiculous. :smiley: haha there’s one at my school and one day he just popped/housed his way to all his classes. The campus is pretty huge and one has to walk really far, so he got a LOT of attention and weird stares. It was awesome</p>
