My friend, who I’ll call Amy (not her real name), wants to go to University of Georgia as an in-state student.

However, I’m really concerned about her chances at admission: she has a 2.1 UW GPA and a 1290 SAT score. She’s a first gen, low-income student (non URM). She’s a junior now and does not have any community service or leadership positions in extracurriculars.

What I’m trying to convince her to do is to go to a community college and then transfer, but she still wants to apply to UGA for her college freshman year. I love her, but I think she has virtually no chance of acceptance for the freshman year, and I want to help her without offending her.
