Chance at Dartmouth Acceptance?

My dream school is Dartmouth. You’ve heard it before but it’s true. I am planning to apply early decision. My GPA is above 4.4, but I do not know by how much. Parent’s never went to college, both grew up poor. Mom from Palestine, dad from the slums. Act is 34, but still gonna retake in September. Not ranked that high, because number 1-10 cheat like crazy and counselors favor students. Number 12, actually, out of 513. My EC consist of being President and head Captain of Economics club, and being the first time my region represented state for it, participating in Keyclub as an active member, volunteering at the hospital (I want to be a surgeon), assisting in some research at a nearby college, NHS president, and being loved by my peers ;). But serious, my I have gotten 3 B’s, taken pretty challenging courses, and had fun doing all of them. I also am going to start the Academic Olympiads at my school in the coming school year, because my school doesn’t care about academia as much as the arts and sports. I am going to be a senior in the coming year, and am an IB diploma applicant. Probably forgetting some stuff, but what do you think?

You are a very competitive applicant. There is no need to retake your ACT; there is essentially no difference in a 34, 35, or 36. Your ECs are a little drab, but that can be made up by writing killer essays.

your background will write some really good essays if done right, and dude as he said^ THERE IS NO REASON TO RETAKE UNLESS YOU LIKE WASTING MONEY. Also, work on the EC’s if you can shine them in a glorious light I would. “Being cheered on due to me being the first one in the region to attend all glorious state competition” or something haha. Also, post your SAT II’s if you have them.

Overall you are decently competitive, but a few things need a little work.

Definitely highlight the palestinian poverty story. Admissions people are suckers for a sob story. You stand a good chance. Good luck

I also have some computing skills, I know how to use and process the MDT and program junk. But on another note, my sister is currently at Dartmouth, and has a pretty good position (Activity Director). My high school isn’t great…at all, really. Here is the link for the information.

My Senior Classes will consist of IB Calculas, IB Chemistry, IB English 2, IB Psychology, IB Bio 2, IB Spanish 5, and IB World History 2. I am also taking Theory of Knowledge first semester and some language class second semester. I am also taking some (a bunch) online courses during the school year. Also, I have done some writing competitions, and got rewarded for them. I kind of want to start a debate club, but I may not have enough time. As I have said, my school neglects basic academic or social clubs found in most schools.

Also, can anyone provide a way to bedazzle my application? Would be appreciated.

No SAT II’s yet, my apologies.

Why don’t you ask your sister??

In addition, I wouldn’t bad mouth any other people from your school one way or the other in the application. It doesn’t speak well of you. If your school doesn’t care about adamemia, why do people cheat? And also don’t share information here where people can identify you… Think how your classmates will feel if they figure out it was you who posted this? The new club looks very resume-padding, right before application.

Best of luck!!

My bad, I just mean that the students are very, very competitive. The school is the best public school in a very wide area, I was also referring to extra curricular activities in not being as strong academically. My goal is to change the school for the better, so students like me have a better shot at their dream school. My apologies for being rude.
