Chance at Duke with 2300 SAT?

I want to go to law school after undergraduate school, and I’m trying to put myself in the best position to do that. I think going to Duke would be a good start! However, money is a bit of an issue (any scholarship opportunities I should be aware of?). Here are my stats:

SAT:
2300 (CR: 780, M: 750, W: 770)
1530/1600

Subject tests:
Math II: 750
World History: 760
US History: 790
Chemistry: 800

GPA:
4.0 UW

AP Classes:
Four so far: World History, US History, English Language, Chemistry (all 5’s on the exams)
Taking 6 AP’s senior year

Mediocre extracurricular activities…some pretty neat research internships for the past 2 summers, coaching soccer for the past 4 summers, varsity soccer for 4 years in high school, and volunteering at hospital for the past two summers

I plan on majoring in economics, if that information helps.

Thanks, and any additional info helps a lot!

What state are you from?

Georgia. And I’m Hispanic, if that helps.

I say this a lot in here, but since you mentioned money, I feel it really applies to your case: Duke is among the 60ish national universities and LACs that claim to meet 100% of demonstrated need. They base your financial aid on your parents’ financial situation, your financial situation, how many college students there are in your family (in any given year), etc.

Duke is a great school. Many schools will give you the education to do well enough on the LSAT to get into the top 14 law schools; Duke certainly is among them.

A 2300 puts you in the game to get into any university in the US, including HYP. Duke obviously falls under that umbrella. So in terms of just the SAT, yes, you are a major player for admission to Duke. Duke’s average SAT for admitted freshmen is right around 2150, so you are quite a good bit above that.

Duke’s closest peer schools in terms of average SAT score of admitted freshmen (+ or - about 20 points) are:

Stanford
Penn
Northwestern
Vanderbilt
Rice
Amherst
Swarthmore
Brown

Based solely on average SAT, these are Duke’s closest peers. And every one of these schools claims to meet 100% of demonstrated need.

With the 2300, and given your other measurables, you have a decent shot anywhere. Pick the schools you like and then choose according to the financial aid they offer, among your own variables.

By the way… apologies for the double-post.

The highest average SAT among national universities is Cal Tech at 2277.

The highest average SAT among LACs is Harvey Mudd, at 2217. Mudd is a shade below HYP, but is in a virtual dead heat with MIT, and is a shade above U of Chicago.

Tall cotton.

Guess those big tech schools can draw some pretty good talent. hehe

This average is also brought down by URMs, legacies, and recruited athletes.

Maybe the effect from “recruited athletes” is a bit more for the D1 athletics schools than for non-D1, but they all make probably roughly equal test score allowances for URMs and legacies.
