chance for BROWN PLME program!

<p>Hi I’m applying early decision for brown university, and hoping to qualify for their 8 year BS/MD (PLME) program… if not, I’d be happy being accepted to just the 4year undergraduate</p>

<p>anyways here’s my stats:</p>

<p>korean/american</p>

<p>I attend the 7th best high school in the nation (newsweek), so we dont have rank
but current weighted gpa: 4.101
unweighted: ?</p>

<p>my freshmen year i had A’s and B’s
my sophomore year SUCKED and i had A’s B’s, and 2 C’s (im gonna explain this)
but junior year i REALLY brought it up and got all A’s except 1 B in the high 90s and i took 4 ap classes
taking 5 ap courses in senior year</p>

<p>tests:
SAT I: C:590, M: 770, W: 680 Essay:11
SATII: NONE</p>

<p>ACT: 34 Essay: 8</p>

<p>Brown requires sat I and 2 sat II tests OR just the ACT
im gonna take sat I again and maybe even ACT again (cause I got perfect score on practice) and hopefully just send the ACT score in…
BTW, can i do that? or are SAT scores posted no matter what?</p>

<p>EC:

  1. self-taught guitar and bass, started church praise team, taught instruments to others, and am currently praise leader
  2. cello, played for 8+ years… won concerto competitions, all-state, region, youth orchestra, blah blah asian stuff
  3. chamber group, won scholarship to study w/ Natalia Khoma (idk if yall know her but shes really famous cellist)
  4. basketball, JV soph, didnt play junior, AAU summer league champions, playing Varsity senior year
  5. NHS 11,12
  6. math club (duh)
  7. ping pong club (treasuerer)
  8. Frisbee team (play in college tournaments… beat Duke)</p>

<p>this is the major stuff, i might even cut the last 3</p>

<p>volunteer/ “medical experience”

  1. hospital once every week
  2. research internship this summer in microbiology department
  3. counselor at a diabetes camp this summer
  4. and other small stuff that round up to 200+ hours…</p>

<p>that’s about it, and my parents and grandparents were all doctors, and i really wanna go to the 8 year guaranteed program, so the interview wouldnt be a problem (if i get one =p)</p>

<p>Brown PLME is very competitive (I don’t know the exact stats, but probably on par or even tougher than Harvard admissions)</p>

<p>The SAT score could definitely improve alot, and try to improve your ACT to 35 or 36 to stand a better chance. </p>

<p>Furthermore, the 2 Cs (unless you have a good explanation, i.e parents died, got addicted to drugs, got shot) are pretty much gonna kill your application.</p>

<p>Brown PLME frequently rejects kids with high 2300’s, spectacular EC’s, and everything else</p>

<p>Even if you raise your score it really wont be realistic to set your sights on PLME.</p>

<p>I would suggest you look into other 7/8 year med programs that are less competitive. A doctor is a doctor no matter what school he or she graduated from.</p>

<p>actually to tell you the truth yongbikwon, I would say that the Brown PLME program is a reach for anyone, and I have taken two summer courses at Brown University, and they told me that the quality that they want the most isn’t hardworking…its uniqueness, because out of at least 20000 applicants applying at least 5000 will have the nation’s top stats, so they just boil it down to uniqueness at the end. I also befriended someone from Brown who got into the PLME program, and he wrote his essay on how he is ambidextrous, so good luck, and remember the PLME program is very tough to get into.</p>

<p>Also they only choose around 80 kids in the whole nation for PLME.</p>
