I’m Applying to Santa Clara University, UC Davis, Cal Poly SLO, and University of Washington (Seattle) , all as a civil engineer major.
I already Got into Montana state university before the school year started, and so I tried to apply to schools that were a good fit, however I’m realizing that the schools averages are a lot different than their engineering averages and that has got me a little worried.
My Stats are as follows
SAT- 1980 (680 math, 650 Writing, 650 Reading)
GPA- 4.0 weighted, 3.55 unweighted
Extra curricular- Cross country and track, lettered all four years and went to CIF last two years, currently captain for both
Heavily involved in youth group, go on many service trips and help at local homeless shelter.

Im getting the uneasy feeling that I applied to schools that were a little out of my league. My top choice is Cal Poly (mostly for financial reasons) and a closer look at them really makes me wish I had applied to Pomona as well. If worst comes to worse I will just go to Montana, but where do you think I fall with these schools, specifically Cal Poly (which I feel is the most competitive out of these)
Any help is appreciated, I’m doing this just to unveil some of the mystery and hopefully relieve some anxiety.
I’d say a decent chance at U of W. I don’t UW believe admissions necessarily looks at majors during screening. Only after acceptance would it matter, and only for a couple majors that allow freshman, such as computer science.

I’ll point out that there is time to apply to a few other schools if you’d like more options. You might find that smaller schools could be a good fit. Your SAT is probably right where you need it for OOS at Washington, but your unweighted GPA might be an issue. Last year’s entering class had an average unweighted GPA of 3.78, and my understanding is that OOS stats are generally higher than the average. The Seattle Times recently reported that about half of the record 43,334 applicants this year were OOS, and they are projected to fill about 1,100 of the 6,500 seats in the freshman class (4,300 instate and 1,100 international).
I agree with TekSan, though. You look like a fine overall applicant, so I think you have a decent chance. It’s not clear cut for any of those schools, but your strong SAT should tilt some in your favor. Good luck!
