I’m doing early decision to Cornell University, so whoop. I’m also using a 1440 sat (780 math 660 ERW) for it cuz i didn’t have time, so my chances might be low but oh well.

I really want to get in Northwestern or Dartmouth for computer science and film/media arts. Do you guys think I have a decent shot? (i know i have a bad gpa freshman and sophomore year but my head of school wrote in the rec letter that i was improving drastically and stuff)

I really don’t have a counselor that is active and can help with college so it would be awesome if someone could help!! THANKS

UCB is test blind this admission cycle.

What are your 3 UC GPA’s based on this calculator? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

You can only apply to one major so CS or Media Arts. If CS are you applying for EECS or CS in the College of Letters and Sciences?

Is your 760 a hoped for score or is it an actual recent score? If it is actual and you already summitted your Cornell App, you can update that app.

Full pay helps, but maybe more at other very good schools. I am thinking state schools and smaller privates. Your gpa is going to be an issue at these very competitive schools. Having your head of school address that is helpful, but still you need to be realistic since there will be thousands of apps that have close to perfect grades with the highest rigor. I hope you are also applying to less reachy schools than those you have listed.

Your GPA will put you out of contention at any of these schools
The good news is there is plenty of choices for you to get as good /better quality of education and for what you are looking for
I would try to decide between your 2 majors which is important to you
For CS you could consider UW Madison or Purdue - those are both great schools and you would definitely be competitive. Santa Clara would be another excellent option. Look for “fit” and try not to get too caught up with rankings. All the best.

Hey thanks so much for your reply! My UC GPA’s are:
UW: 3.81
W: 4.19
Weighted and Capped: 4.06

Hey thanks for all your replies! I don’t really need a safety because I would be going to my country’s schools which are also competitive. I’m only applying to reaches and seeing how far I can possibly get.

I really love Cornell, Dartmouth, and Northwestern so I really want to go there.

I can’t really go to state or smaller private schools because my parents think theyre not worth the money. They really care about the “name value” of the school.

Also, I’m prediciting a 760 on my ERW SAT because in four consecutive practice tests I’ve gotten 760 or up and I will be taking one in december.

I am also applying to UC Berkeley as a media arts major in the College of Letters and Science!

This data is not major specific but since UCB is test blind, UC GPA will have a huge impact on your chances. 2020 data not available but this is the most update information.

2019 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 12%

UCB does not admit by major to the College of Letters and Sciences.

Note that L&S admits students as undeclared; admission to capped majors (e.g. CS, economics, psychology, ORMS, statistics, art practice, and a few others) is by college GPA in prerequisite courses (and portfolio for art practice) after attending for a few semesters.
