Essays: working really hard on these…however not the best writer; much better speaker than writer
Teacher recommendation: AP Calculus teacher-don’t know she’s renowned for her recs but I only know her for like a month (we talk a lot, but I still don’t know what she will write…maybe I’ll drop a few hints or something)/Health Science teacher-not a known teacher but will write a really good rec because not many other people asked him for one so he said he will spend time on mine
Alumni Recommendation: TAMU professor that I worked with; He is on the news a lot and known in the engineering industry
Counselor rec: generic/too many kids…but I plan to maybe help her write it because I know she might be overwhelmed and could use the help
Interview: Am really hoping for one because I know my stats are way too low for this school

Truth be told guys, I went through a horrible time in life. My parents literally ruined my life. They thought I was a pawn they could play with in their divorce and they poisoned my minds against each other. They even refused to pay bills so I had to live without electricity for a week. My mother has bullied me into taking classes and pursuing the medical field when what I have always wanted to do was business. At the end of the day, my parents still can’t decide on a divorce and I won’t receive any financial aid because I am still not a permanent resident despite living in the U.S for 11 years. I really don’t know what to do. Anyways, sorry for the sob story haha. Tell me what you guys think!! I would love to know! and a big THANK YOU to all of you for taking the time to read this wall of text

I just read the 2nd paragraph and from that I’d say maybe. The athlete thing helps.

^Otherwise, do you think the scores are too low or something?

Any other opinions possibly?

Anyone else out there who can help possibly?

Anyone there with any opinions?

Although I feel like your AP scores aren’t on par with NYU, 2130 is a really good score so I’d say go for it. SAT wise, you have a REALLY good chance. Keep in mind NYU won’t give good financial aid though!

P.S: do you know if we should write an intro/conclusion for the NYU supplemental?

I am not sure :(…but thanks for your input! Anyone else with any opinions?

Hi guys! Forgive me for bringing back to life a three month old thread lol…I just wanted to update that I applied to NYU Stern RD due to financial obligations…I can’t afford to get into an ED Contract…what would you guys say my chances were? I also didn’t write about my personal life stated above because I didn’t want my parents getting into any legal trouble…Despite their actions, I don’t want any of this affecting their careers…Sorry about the long message! Thank you for your chances! :D

2130 is pretty low for NYU Stern ED & RD. GPA is fine but AP scores are low and would not recommend putting anything less than a 4 or 5(in a quantitative subject) on your app. Rugby Athlete thing might help as its unique.

In my honest opinion, you won’t get in.

Thanks for your input guys! Anyone else with any opinions?

2130 is not necessarily “low” for Stern. It’s not that straightforward No one can tell you what your chances are because it is a seemingly inscrutable process. That is because they truly do seem to do what they say- that is, they look carefully at your ENTIRE application and try to determine how good the “fit” is. That does not mean ability or aptitude, but fit- and that is a very abstract process. You’ve done all that you can and you have to leave the rest to the process and know that you did your part and there are also many wonderful schools out there so try to enjoy this exciting chapter in your life. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, so that is great that you are pursuing your goals! Students with much higher stats are rejected all the time, but those with lower stats are also accepted, and frequently! Applicants can’t seem to tear themselves away from asking about “chances” there but there are just too many unknown variables for any of us to make any accurate predictions.

LightingMom, I completely agree with what you said. In fact, I dare say that I might have said the same thing if I was commenting on another forum. However, I just guess the admissions process is so nerve-wracking that we seniors tend to become impatient and desire an immediate response  …Therefore, while you are absolutely correct that there is no way this forum could possibly predict my admissions, it just provides me with somewhat of a relief valve to unload my stress and get a “chance” for the universities I applied to…Thanks for your response! :D

Anyone else with more input? :)

Don’t go for NYU if you need financial aid…

Sorry to hear about the situation with your parents.

I’m not optimistic about your chances; your SAT score and GPA are below average and your AP scores won’t help you.

All this is exacerbated by the fact that the Wharton/Ivy rejects will be applying en masse during the RD round.
