chance her

Ok I’ve got to know about my daughter since she’s so laid back about whole thing. 4.55 gpa. 4.01 core. 1340/2040 decent a.p’s, t.v.internship, duke tip. thoughts?

I would be shocked if she did not get in. She has an excellent chance of getting accepted.

What if only around 15th percentile in class rank?

4.01 is her core GPA using UF formula? And a 4.01 at her high school means she ranks in the bottom 15th percentile of her class?

^^ pretty obvious she means top 15th percentile.

I don’t think it is obvious at all. Some schools have quite a bit of grade inflation.

FYI - there is no such thing as the top 15th percentile. I think what you meant to say is the top 15%.

A percentile is the percentage that are equal to or below. So the 15th percentile for class rank means class rank is in the bottom 15%. If someone means their class rank is in the top 15%, then they should say their class rank is in the 85th percentile. Or just say top 15% and don’t use percentiles at all.

[Percentile - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary](Percentile Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster)

As this thread shows, many people don’t understand percentiles, so it is usually more clear to just state top 10% or top 25%, etc. for class rank.

Everyone in the world but you would understand what (s)he meant. Having 85+ % of the school with at least a 4.0 is inflation on steroids.

No, futurevp, in college your professors will admonish you for that sort of imprecision in your language. And if it were a question on a math test, you would get the question wrong.

Percentile has a specific meaning and it is not the same as percentage. In fact, using the phrase “bottom 15th percentile” as I did is redundant.

Yes, I mean top 15%…

4.01 core UF GPA and 2040 SAT puts her in middle 50% for both. Unless you are not telling us about a drug conviction or something like that, she is in, congrats!

Yes, she is probably going to be accepted. Did she apply for the summer term?

Yes Summer B, however UF indicates there is no difference in acceptance standards.
