Schools
I would like to be chanced for Georgia Tech (EA) and UNC Chappel hill (EA) (Out of state)

If you have any matches that would suite me, I would love to hear them! Just has to be <$70k.

Neither will happen (but you can try). And UNC is not direct admit.

Under $70k gives you a ton of options.

Bama will be $20k with the top merit you get. Culverhouse is a strong school and it’s a safety. Auburn will be pricier but is possible.

You can try U of SC Darla Moore ahd UGA as well as FSU.

NC State and Va Tech are possible.

If you’re willing to go a bit farther, UMN and Ohio State are excellent.

UTK, Kentucky, Arkansas and Delaware are also fantastic b school options.

Head to the Midwest, Miami of Ohio and highly rated Indiana are both safeties.

Good luck.

Thank you!!!

Do you have Naviance or Scior at your HS so you can see the results for Georgia Tech for similar-stat students? I imagine GT is very competitive for in-state students, much like UNC is in NC.

If you have a particular business focus (finance, accounting, BIT, etc.), you may be able to further narrow down options based on a specific program.

UNC is not direct admit for business (except for a select few) and as I’m sure you know, extremely hard to get into for OOS (even those with near perfect stats). You can always submit and see what happens as long as you fall in love with other options.

UGA has a great business program and you’re in-state, so that’s a great option. You could also try Clemson.

Quick note to OP - if you were choosing UNC or Ga Tech for “rank” and not saying you should - but IU Kelley which most consider on par or superior - is a safety for you as you qualify for direct admit assuming the 4.0 is on your transcript.

It’s a very large b school - might be a concern.

Good luck.

I would be surprised if you don’t get in at GA Tech. UNC probably a crapshoot as a GA resident.

Where do you fall in your class approximately? That will have much more bearing on your acceptance to Georgia Tech than your GPA without context. You will be reviewed in the context of the other applicants from your class, and GT will only take the very strongest. At our school, these are typically the top 10 percent of students that are competitive for GT.

Also know that the business school at Georgia Tech is very small. One of the most popular majors that people apply to is always business, which makes it very competitive.

That being said, both under represented minorities and women typically are admitted at a much higher rate which could be to your benefit. My one concern is that everyone at Georgia Tech must take through calculus 2, and they put a pretty heavy emphasis on taking the strongest math classes offered at your high school, over other APs.

I would classify both Georgia Tech and UNC as reaches, but they are reaches for almost everybody even in state. UNC has an 8% out of state acceptance rate and that includes all out of state athletes, so it is similar or lower than early acceptance to Ivy League schools

UNC is a huge reach unfortunately. It was rated as the most difficult OOS admit in the country last year with OOS students at about 3% Admit so you have to be nearly perfect to have a shot and have a hook.

GT is more possible but it’s not a big B School, that’s UGA which is a great school and still a tough admit but not quite as hard. Did you apply there? That would seem obvious as a Georgia resident. The lack of math AP’s and class rank also are going to be almost impossible to overcome at a place like GT.

The IU suggestion is a great one, I know someone who has a daughter that couldn’t get into A&M or Texas (Texas resident) that got a scholly to IU and is thriving. Already had one great internship and has another lined up for the Summer with a major investment firm.

You have some nice stats but they really aren’t what you need for elite schools and that’s ok. You don’t need to go to a highly selective school to be successful. Also unless you had a serious college coach help you with your essays that specializes in getting into Ivy level schools I would hesitate to say you have strong essays. It’s a game and a complex one to play. Your EC’s look pretty good and I think your background would appeal to the right private schools as well, that’s something to look at. Public schools tend to be very stat driven, Private schools more holistic. Wake Forest might be an interesting reach not far from home for instance.

I really like the Kelley suggestion. I am sorry to say I think UNC will be out of reach. What about UGA? What about JMU, UofK, South Carolina, Delaware or UT?

I agree that UNC is out of reach, and even if by some miracle he got in, getting into the business school woudl be extremely unlikely as even the top of the top at UNC don’t always get in.
