Fingers crossed.
Yeah, Iâm mainly worried on the C- and 2.0+ GPA requirements. Iâd like to think Iâm a good student but I canât help but to think that if I donât end up getting above a 2.0 cumulative GPA or a C- in calculus and CS classes, Iâd waste my scholarship at UTD and transferring into UTD might be a hassle. But then again, I am passionate for CS so I might be fine?
If you get a C- and not a 2.0, then CS likely wasnât for you - no matter where you go. And then youâd have to figure out even if it was the right school.
So I wouldnât let that impact my decision at all.
Enter college from a position and attitude of strength. You will likely work harder than ever before but you were admitted - so you should know that - but most everyone else is making it through and why wouldnât you?
Many if not most freshmen struggle in the first few weeks, although they may not realize it.
The trick is to go to office hours and ask questions no matter what: itâll confirm you did get it or show you that you didnât&give you a chance to catch up and if youre passionate you can ask a question about sth youâd like to know more about. You wonât bother the professors : they love it when students care enough to come and ask questions.
Yes, UTD has a respectable CS program. Not on par with Austin, but good nevertheless.
I think itâs reasonable to bet on yourself and your ability to handle the prereq coursework. As others have said, be very proactive and put supports in place before you need them. You clearly have the ability, so if you are disciplined and diligent, I expect youâll be fine.
What UTD has, that UT-Austin does not, is the economic safety net of being able to revert to commuting if financial pressure arise. Iâm not clear on what the overall cost difference looks like, and how close to the edge of affordability youâd be at UT. But it seems to me that this is the comparison to be making - how much of a financial limb would you be going out on at UT-Austin, and is the combined stress of additional cost, no commuter option, and having to qualify for the major, worth it, to gain the reputational and experiential difference between UT and UTD. Itâs great that you have two good options and a choice to make - congrats!!
Yeah, I was just looking at the negative since I look for all perspectives. I think Iâd be a decent student to meet all the requirements, and I have friends going that can help me.
