OK - I will focus on cost - because any time someone says cost is not an issue but I’d like cheaper - that tells me cost is an issue.
And I’m unsure of your academics - psych is social science, regardless of how your school labels it. So I hope you have two lab sciences. And math, hopefully through pre-calc - but you don’t say.
So let me throw a few not in the NE since you sad if you know any south….for English, Ole Miss is very strong, William Faulkner is their claim to fame.
Another that should work with your stats is UNC Wilmington.
I don’t know if it will work for English but it will for admissions - U Iowa is recognized as one of the top programs in America…so it’s midwest, but just an extra credit toss
OK - to the North East, you have so many choices - Drexel is a bit confusing to me but - including some flagships from Maine, UVM, UNH, URI or UDel. I don’t think UCONN or UMASS likely fit nor do I think Rutgers and UMD fit. Pitt is worth a try though. And while some don’t think it’s the NE (it’s literally 70 miles south of Pittsburgh) - then WVU would be an option. Another would be George Mason. I do think some SUNYs can work - Buffalo, Albany, New Paltz (about 6K) and Geneseo which is a more liberal arts vibe.
As for known for English and larger that fits your desire Ithaca is about 6200 - is that large enough? If you don’t like NYC, then GW is likely not a fit. Syracuse is unlikely but if full pay, could work -it’s worth an app.
Those give you things to noodle on - but there’s others that might work but are more regional - like a Salisbury, Millersville, or W Chester PA. TCNJ too.
Just coming on here to say that Penn State has rolling admissions after 11/1. Your best chance at being admitted is to submit ASAP. If you are willing, check the box for a summer start as that will give you an admissions boost.
Literature is a dying art with the popular use of AI. I want to contribute to a long tradition of HUMAN writers. I write and read constantly, and I see it as a means of accessing knowledge in unique ways, much more interesting than a google search or asking Chat-GPT. I plan to be an editor or enter marketing after university, or possibly pursue a masters
Often, with rolling admission, selectivity increases with later applicants. So an applicant who would get admitted applying early in rolling admission may get denied if applying later because the school is full.
Sorry! should of been clearer–I was referring just to this specific thread, getting matched here. I just wanted some more input from people that may have more experience than i do. Dont worry, im not just applying w/o checking the price tag lol
I asked this up front - this is the wrong way to go about things.
You need to find out from your folks what they can pay. Then find schools to achieve that cost
Some say - I’ll just take loans - fortunately, the government is closing that door - you can only borrow $5500 the first year and even your parents $20K plus only $65K over four years.
And for your major, you don’t want loans anyway.
Please establish a budget up front and save yourself a lot of heartache, wasted research and even potential anguish from acceptances you have no ability to attend - figure the budget up front.
That is criteria A, B and C when choosing a college - for those who have limitations, it’s far more important than anything else.
Realistically then, 65k would be a decent cap. I’m first gen single parent household, and my parent will definitely not want to take out a loan. However, she owns her own business that does very well. Regardless, thats mostly why the UK is attractive to me–beyond just the culture, quality of life, and educational opportunities, its much more affordable
Drexel may or may not come in. Same with Syracuse which I said is worth a try. All the schools I put in post 4 should work which are:
UVM, UNH, URI, UDel, WVU, George Mason, SUNY Albany, Buffalo, West Chester for large. I also said Ole Miss (which is probably the best of the list), UNC Wilmington and Iowa - others that will hit budget. I’m not sure if Iowa is safe for English but it is safe overall and top 10 in most rankings - which is why I noted it. I also mentioned Pitt as - you should try.
For smaller but not small, I noted Salisbury, Millersville, TCNJ and Ithaca. All should hit but you’d need merit at Ithaca to get there - which I’d expect.
But many schools would be over $65K - but since you don’t want small and you have a limited geography, those should all be good cost and curriculum wise. If you could/would go to the midwest, the list would grow.
