Chance Me! (Advices)

Its really sad, I haven’t even scheduled an interview w/ groton yet.
I just had my andover interview yesterday it was kinda short but didn’t ask what my parents do or like their job(income)

You should schedule all your interviews right now, they are one of the most important parts of your application IMO, since even though I didn’t submit most of the required stuff and didn’t really do anything last year I got W/L bc of interviews.

right. im trying to get everything done before Christmas and hopefully the interviews goes smoothly. BTW, do you have any tips for interviews? and does the length rlly matter or affect your chance … what part do you think you did well during ur interviews?

but you do have a rlly strong academics + athletics and that’s probably also why they decided to put you in wl

No, when I asked them what got me on the W/L they said the interview was the main reason.

You emailed the admissions office and they said your interview? g4u! Youre probably going to get into most of the schools you applied :+1: are you applying for FA?

I think the best tip for interviews is to prepare with the basic questions they are going to ask. And think of stuff that are really important to you that you HAVE to mention. And IMO I think time on interview is important but its mixed opinions among people. I think for me the best part of my interviews was something that someone my age has never done or is really rare like studying by yourself and never getting outside help and achieving an award or joining or winning something that is extremely rare for someone your age.

I applied last year and I contacted them why I was put on the W/L not rejected and they said interview. And I’m not going to get into any schools I applied to maybe 1 or 2 and thats if I’m lucky. Yes I’m applying to FA.

I can message you some interview tips that were really helpful for me if you want.

Thanks. Im definitely going to prepare more when i apply next year, but should I explain or talk about my b in my physics grades so they wont reject me right away… just praying right now I get a chance of being waitlisted :skull: gl to you this year

That’s really nice of you to offer to share your interview tips I would be happy to receive them. Thanks

I don’t think a B is terrible especially since you just got into high school, I had a D in math (I don’t know how but class average was D so idk) so I explained it during interviews and they all or mostly all said they’ll look over it since I had old math grades and old math achievements to back up my math prowess or something.

So I think if you explain it right and don’t make it sound like a excuse they can ignore it (especially if your old science grades were good and if you have something to back up it) and if all your other grades are As.

Alright, I’ll message you soon!

I just finished reading this thread. Most schools are not need blind or even need aware. The ability to pay matters at most schools. Not all schools offer financial aid to international students so verify before you apply and waste your time. If they do, it is usually partial aid. How will you meet the cost of travel, vacations, books, etc.? Regardless of ability to pay, most schools have very low rates of admissions. Make sure you have a solid plan in your home country. None of the schools are grammar blind so clean up the text speak that runs throughout the thread and make sure it doesn’t infect anything that you submit to a school. It is really grating.

I am shocked that NWEA MAP scores could be substituted for SSAT. Even if you were submitting above grade scores (not that hard) it wouldn’t compare at all to what SSAT is providing. I don’t think very many school would allow this.

hi, cool message
are you asian btw (IM NOT BEING RACIST HERE)

I get the point, I’m not expecting to get really admitted but what if I get waitlisted by some schools , so I’m mainly aiming for EW, choate, blair
I get the point but there’s really no proof of how they deal with FA applications so yee

didn’t understand what you mean by “clean up the text speak that runs throughout the thread and make sure it doesn’t infect anything that you submit to a school. It is really grating.”

I think they are referring to things like g4u and gl. They just wanted to make sure you would not use anything like that in an essay.

We were surprised, too, but Emma Willard said it wouldn’t be a problem. I agree that probably not too many other schools would allow it, but it doesn’t hurt to ask if you end up in the same situation our daughter was in with scores that would qualify you with the rest of the pool, but one section well below the rest. As mentioned, she ended up being admitted at Emma Willard as well, so it didn’t negatively affect her application to have MAP scores instead of SSAT there. And, since the OP is also overseas and applying to EW, I thought I would share my daughter’s experience.
