Chance Me (AEM)

Gender: Male

Race: Black

SAT: 1940 (670/670/600)

SAT II’s (thus far): U.S. History - 790, Math I (which probably won’t be sent)-700. Hopefully, I can get above 750 for Bio and Math II next school year.

GPA: Approximately 4.0

Class Rank: Somewhere in the top 5 out of a bit less than 200

Courses: AP U.S. History (score coming next month), marketing and management electives, and the highest level science, math, English, and history courses in my school. I’ll be taking AP Bio, AP EH, and AP Calc AB next year.

EC’s:

Track and Field (2006-2009)

Achievements:

Most Dedicated Runner (2007)
The numerous Principal’s List/First Honors awards

Yes, I know there isn’t much here in terms of EC’s. I haven’t been able to find or do anything these last few summers. Running takes up a lot of my time after school, but I don’t plan on leaving the team after three years.

Although your stats are pretty good, there’s no focus on business. Taking AP Bio for example, is a smart movie because of their science requirements. But you should take AP Macro and AP Micro econ as well, instead of Euro History, imo.

And yeah, you won most dedicated runner, but it would look better if you won or placed in district/regional competitions, state would even better.

So see if you can run for a leadership position or start a business club, and if you can, try to raise one of the SAT I scores (CR or math) past 700, and you’ll have an even better shot.

A major problem with my school is that it lacks the more uncommon/higher difficulty AP courses (Economics, Art History, Physics, etc). I’m taking the highest level courses and the most relevant AP’s, though.

Competive running is not an easy sport in general and never has been for me. There’s always been some issue (coaching, access to a gym, strength…) that’s prevented me from running as well as I would like. In fact, I’m a slightly above average runner at best and probably won’t even bother with collegiate running–most likely choosing a sport I enjoy and like better. Before my freshman year, I engaged in practically no athletic activity. If you lived my childhood/teenage years, you would understand why. There’s no background or real mention/encouragement of sports/physical training in my family.

My school isn’t as good as many other schools in the EC circuit. It’s merely (no disparagement/offense intended) an ostensibly above average Catholic school that has just recently had to lay off a few teachers. As for the SAT, I bought the College Board’s book to help me a bit with that a few days ago. Hopefully, I can hit at least the 700 mark in one of more of the test’s categories. My biggest worry at the moment is being hired for a job, or perhaps engaging in something voluntary and community related. Both the work and the service have been extremely hard to find. I don’t want to spend yet another summer at the house feeling bored, irritated, and immobile.
