Chance Me: American University ED1

Application is in, and my daughter is beyond stressed out. She applied to other schools, but this is really the only one she’s very excited about.

American University, Early Decision 1

GPA: 96.67 (unweighted)
SAT: 1380 (700 math/680 english)
Coursework: 2 APs (AP psychology w/ 5 on AP exam, taking AP bio now), 3 dual enrollment (Spanish, calculus, statistics), all Honors classes throughout HS except social studies
ECs: National Honor Society, Animal Rescue Club, music (acoustic and electric guitar), summer internships at building supply company (managing web site and social media, billing and invoicing, answering phones), lots of volunteering at animal shelters, part-time job during school year.
Major: Psychology

As far as demonstrated interest, we attended Preview Day in August in 95 degree heat. If that doesn’t demonstrate interest, I don’t know what does, LOL. She also went to the meeting when the admission counselor came to her high school and she attended a virtual session on her academic program.

Praying for good news. Anyone know when they release ED1 decisions? Web site says 12/31, but not sure if that means they release all decisions on that day, or if that is just the latest day we’ll hear but we may hear earlier.

Well, ED is the best form of demonstrated interest you can show! AU typically has a high admit rate for ED1 and your daughter’s stats/profile seem just fine. I’d think you have a pretty good chance. Good luck!

If you are full pay you have a good chance.

She’ll sounds like a perfect match for AU, and I would expect some merit aid ($5-10k) for that SAT score and GPA. Applying ED and going to preview day are the best ways to demonstrate interest, so you’re good on those. Last year, ED 1 was released on Dec 14 and ED2 on Feb 14. All decisions are released on the same day, historically. She’ll get an email when it’s ready.

one other positive for your candidacy - they vastly under enrolled last year - so they need kids - a guaranteed butt in seat - especialy if full pay - will be golden.

I wouldn’t expect merit. Doesn’t mean you won’t get but in theory why would anyone give money on a student that is bound to attend. It happens - I just wouldn’t expect it.

Good luck.
