My school is one of the better public schools in CA (911 API Score). We have about 25/500 kids getting into UC Berkeley and about 10 kids going to Ivies or Stanford every year.
GPA unweighted = 3.7
GPA weighted = 4.1
SAT = 2160 (780R, 740M, 640W)
I Retook the SAT this weekend I am 90% sure I got 780 or 760 in math depending on the curve, I got at least 740 on the writing component, and I do not think I improved in reading.
Math Subject Test = 740 (Count this as a 800 for my next retake)
U.S. History = 800
Literature = 720

Extracurriculars
4 years in school newspaper. Opinion editor junior year and copy editor senior year.
200 hours working with teachers at my local elementary school (lame i know)
Spent two weeks in Beijing this past summer, where I taught children basic English.
Spent 2 months at Stanford University last year. Took Linear Algebra (Passing grade) and U.S. Foreign Policy (A-).
Member of Asian Club for two years. Served as treasurers and volunteered as a peer tutor.
Co- founded and is Vice-President of school chapter of Junior State of America this year. The club has yet to do anything significant as our school just approved clubs last week.

Recommendations:
- One of my recommendations from my journalism advisor should be outstanding. He wrote the rec when i applied to Stanford last summer, and it was great.
- My second rec should be good. It is from my English teacher and I made a point to earn 100% on my essays last year.

Essays: getting there…but should be above average.

Hooks:
My stepfather went insane and got arrested for domestic abuse my sophomore year. i basically handled all the divorce cr*p for my mother, who doesn’t speak English well. I don’t want to make excuses, but I can try and attribute my low sophomore grades to this.

I probably have the most rigorous schedule at my school. I will have taken 11 AP courses and many more honors/accelerated. I have taken every AP except Chemistry, Music Theory, and Art History. I also went and took Linear Algebra at Stanford, which my school doesn’t even offer.

I want to apply to Wharton or CSA and major in international affairs. I feel like my history grades should help if I major in intl. affairs.

However, I am unsure if I should apply ED given my low grades. I had almost all A’s freshman year, but my sophomore year was just horrible. I didn’t even try and i got a C+ in Calc B/C for second semester (This is my only C, but i feel like it ruins my entire application). For the first semester of junior year, i was also mediocre but i got all A’s and 1 B second semester. Now I have all A’s, but my grades won’t be in by the time I get ED decisions back, so I don’t know whether it is best to go ED or RD. So can you guys chance me or ED and also again if I were to go RD and get a 4.0 this semester?

Thanks.
