<p>Hello. Please chance me. If you do, I shall write you a four line poem.</p>

<p>Asian American Senior
GPA: 3.7/4.3
I have an upward trend, starting somewhat slow my freshman and sophomore with ~2 B’s a semester. Then in junior year I stepped it up and got straight As and a B each semester. B in AP Chem</p>

<p>SAT I: 2210 (I’ll retake this and I expect it to break 2250)
SAT II: American History: 770
Literature: 720 (I ran out of time. I’m retaking this and will hopefully get an 800 because this is the stuff I’m good at)
Math II C: didn’t take it yet, but I expect I’ll get a low to mid 700
AP Scores: AP Euro (5), APUSH (5), AP Language & Comp (5), AP Psych (5), AP Chem (4). Next year, I’m taking 4 more APs, APES, AP Lit, AP Gov/Econ, AP Calc AB. I think I’ll get 5s on all of them but maybe I’ll get a 4 in Calc because math is my weakest subject
Hooks: I don’t think I have any. I have a sibling at Duke if that helps anything. My high school is in the top 5 public schools in California or something like that. And top 100 in the US. Dunno if that’s as impressive as that sounds</p>

<p>Extracurriculars:</p>

<p>Tennis for all 4 years (performance stunted for a year because of surgeries)
Green Club for 3 years. I’m the new President for next year.
Marching Band for one year (I quit though)
Colburn Wind Ensemble (high school group at a music college in LA) for 3 years
All Southern Band in 9th grade
All State Band in San Luis Obispo in 11th grade and next year, 12th grade
Art for 3 years
Short story got published in school’s literary arts magazine
Reading Tutor for free for low income schools for one year (next year)
Tutored kids at school and I also teach Clarinet
Volunteered as a musical therapist my freshman year with 60ish hours, a piano instructor my junior and senior year, and volunteered at an art museum as well.</p>

<p>Essays: I’m still working on them, but I think they’ll be anywhere from pretty good to awesome. Writing is my forte, but I just don’t know what I’m going to write.</p>

<p>Recommendation Letters: I don’t mean to sound cocky, but I’m pretty sure these will be very good. Two teachers that I really get along well with and my tennis coach, who I also know very well.</p>

<p>I dunno what else to write. I think that pretty much sums me up. If I remember anything else, I’ll add it on.</p>

<p>Colleges I’m interested in: UCLA, USC, Princeton, Brown, Penn, Pomona College, Oberlin, Kenyon.</p>

<p>Oh yeah, and I have a shot at being a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. I got either a 218 or 219 on my PSAT. I’ll have to check. This is above California’s past cutoff, but this kinda thing is getting more and more competitive, and I’ve cut it pretty close</p>

<p>Good chances at all schools except Princeton and Brown(long shots). Your upward trend makes up for the lacking GPA. If your essays are really as good as you claim tho, Princeton and Brown may be in the cards.</p>

<p>Princeton and Brown are high reaches due to low GPA (for those schools) but good shots at most of the others although Penn would be a low reach.</p>

<p>Pomona is a reach too. That school has gotten crazy-hard to get into.</p>

<p>^ you look good to me, You should be able get into a few of the colleges you’ve mentioned, but Princeton, Brown and Penn will probably be reaches for you. Try to boost your test scores. </p>

<p>Maybe your essays will be the deciding factor.</p>

<p>Er, sorry if these poems are weird. I just woke up and I tend to be strange in the mornings lol.</p>

<p>Off the top of your heads, can you guys name a few colleges that would be matches for me? But only if you can think of one easily. I don’t want anyone spending 5 hours trying to find one for me haha</p>

<p>NYU, a lot of LAC’s, perhaps Carnegie Mellon or John Hopkins.</p>

<p>Not much in the way of leadership, which will hurt when applyig to Ivys. Test scores are also sub-par. For ECs, don’t mention stuff that you have only done once, done for onyl a year, and (deifinantly) stuff that you quit. Also, the fact that you are ORM will make things tough. The Ivys are reaches, but you should be ok with the rest.</p>

<p>Most people I know would recommend a 2250+ for Ivys.</p>

<p>Princeton is a high reach, Penn is a reach, Brown is a bit less of a reach and UCLA and USC look like matches.</p>

<p>But considering how unpredictable the admissions process is, its tough to actually guess which is a ‘reach’, which is a ‘match’.</p>

<p>^^ Even though people recommend 2250+ for Ivys, I’ve seen people get into Harvard with 2100-2200, without even major awards like Intel or Siemens or USAMO.</p>

<p>Now tikiman (:eek:), write for Grisham and Davidoga, I’ll revisit to check for more 4liners.</p>

Oberlin/Pomona – low matches
Penn/Brown – low reaches
Princeton – reach (for all)
USC – match, but since they made the top 25, they may get a bit cocky with their admission standards… :D</p>

<p>what is your major? id say you’ll get into UCLA, USC, Oberlin, and Kenyon without trouble, Pomona most likely, UPenn is a low reach (unless you’re applying to Wharton), and Princeton is a high reach for everyone, however, if you get 5s on your remaining ap tests and mid to upper 2200s on your sat-retake, id say you can be a pretty good candidate. however, i disagree with previous posters on brown. i definitely think it is more of a match school than a reach school for you just based on knowing some people who’ve been accepted. good luck :)</p>
