chance me and I'll chance back, please?

So this is how my story goes. In H.S I never got good grades mainly because i was hella lazy. I got good grades on test, because i understood the material and I didn’t see why I had to do work if I understood what I was doing. The funny thing is all teacher don’t feel that way, but some did other wise (Physics teacher, pulled off an A+ and didn’t do any work, my teacher said, “homework is pratice” he was my idol haha best class ever). My SAT(2290) and ACT(34) score were really High considering my “race” some of my… how can i put this, non-black friends taught i was very gifted. I never believed in such thing. I applied to school in H.S, and got into SDSU, CAL POLY and UCR. UCLA and CAL sent me letter after my rejection saying that my gpa 3.4 was slightly low, but they were really impressed about my sat scores and that I should re-apple as a trasfer. It was little motativation for me becuase I knew i was “smart” enought to attend those schools but not “turning hw and doing work” smart. So I just turned 19 and I’m about to apply UC’s and CSU only in a year from commuunity college due to my high pass rate in AP classes. So I’m here at college confidential one of the most well decked college prep/chance/smartest people site to see my chances for schools like CAL, UCLA, Cornell, University Texas at Austin, John Hopkins, Vandy, and Stanford?

5 on AP Calculus BC
4 on AP English Composition and Literature
5 on AP US History
5 on Macro and Micro
4 on Comparitive Goverment
5 on US Goverment
4 on AP Euro
4 AP Chem ( self study)
5 AP computer Science A ( had to go to a school in sacremento to take the test… smh)

Physics Mechanics - A
Physics Electricity and Magnetism - A
Physics Waves and Optics - A
Calculus II - A (5 on BC test as well, too it as a refresher)
Calculus III - A
Linear Alebra - A
Diffy Eqs - B ( the teacher was hella out to get me, when i was leaving his class after the final he said, “Nice try boy…” I was the only black kid in the class )

My Gpa is a around 3.86 with that only B So whats my chances for those schools, any comments or advice is welcomed

Well, it really depends on your major but from what I see, your chances are excellent for both UCLA and Cal for any major. (No Offense) Btw, there is no such thing as “turning hw and doing work” smart. It’s called hard work. I’ve met plenty of smart ap students who didn’t get into the schools they wanted because they didn’t do the work. They go around bragging about how smart they are and complain that they deserve to get into LA or CAL. You don’t deserve anything until you work for it. Please don’t be one of those people. Good luck though  (and please don’t throw the race card out, its kinda pathetic)

Will you have enough units to transfer?

Are you applying as a lower division transfer?

Did you finish general education/IGETC?

What’s your major?

2300 on the SAT is considered very high period. I don’t see where you’re getting at when you mention race. Do you expect people to feel sorry for you? Should people see you as a better applicant than an applicant of a different race who also scored a 2300? For being as smart as you say you are, you make no sense.

You most likely will not get into Cornell, UT, John Hopkins, or Stanford just because they’re private hence a very low acceptance rate for transfers (you’re up against applicants who have similar stats but have good EC’s, better GPA, etc).

You haven’t given us enough information to chance you on Cal or UCLA.

PS. Dude please stop with the race stuff. I’m pretty sure he’s not out to “get you” and if he really said “good try boy” because of your race, talk to the dean. And yeah, it just makes you sound pathetic.

I’m well over the 60 limit mark. My intended major is Mechanical Engineering. I’m transfering at a junior standing. According to my academic advisor at my CC, I’m all good in the general ed department thanks to all the AP scores. I hope thats enough information. ohh btw I wasn’t trying to play the race card, but if you saw it that way ohh well.

@lmendoza.012 I’m not suprised that you threw that race stuff back in my face seeing that your from UCSD… xD. I hear that school is hella cut throat.

You have a really good shot as long as you complete your pre-reqs as articulated on assist. Apply CAL and UCLA, but also UCSD or another UC w/ TAG just in case.

PS…drop the race talk.

This guy seems a bit trollish to me. I’m just wondering how someone with a 3.4 gpa can get straight 4 and 5s on ap tests. Those test require some effort, unless you’re an genius. Also, not all of those ap test will transfer over to furfill Igetc at cal and ucla because thats what happened to me. And I didn’t know it was possible to transfer in a year as an engineering major. I mean I did English and I barely got by with finishing pre-reqs and igetc by transfer time and I only had like 2 pre-reqs. Whatever, more power to you if you can do it.

Collegeis4losers if it was up to me, I’d made homework obsolete. Then agian, “some people need the practice”. My physics teacher said it best, “Homework is extra practice…”. I actually have that on my wall xD. I believe in all honesty that if teacher didn’t assignment thing to turn in, I would have been tremendious successful in HS. I do it in college now just to get the grade so I could get into top colleges. I have a passion for science and mathematics, you can say it comes easy to me without practice. Well sorry to hear your AP credits didn’t transfer, well I’ve seen a lot of people transfer within a years so its not unusual, just like getting 4 and 5 on AP tests xD

you may have graduated from HS, but you still sound just like one : (

Dude this guy is a ■■■■■ 100%
There is no way anyone can finish that course load:

Physics Mechanics - A
Physics Electricity and Magnetism - A
Physics Waves and Optics - A
Calculus II - A (5 on BC test as well, too it as a refresher)
Calculus III - A
Linear Alebra - A
Diffy Eqs - B

within a term. Just too many red flags popping out to me to actually believe this guys story is legitimate, because I’m a one year transfer and like I said I barely got by with igetc and pre-reqs come transfer time as a liberal arts major. No way anyone can do it as a engineering or science major.

You need to mature and realize that homework is more than just practice work. It is there to help you build up your working ethic and responsibility. You won’t be able to rely on just sure intelligence once you’re in the big bad world.

OP isn’t so ridiculous that he’s a ■■■■■. Anyway, I’d say you are in for every school because you seem naturally intelligent (test scores) and yeah…aa (since you brought it up).

P.S. If only if my asian heritage wasn’t so education focused…I could reap those benefits. ;)

doing homework is not cool

@afroengineer: lmendoza is my the first letter of my first name and then my last name (Mendoza). I too am I minority but I don’t use that as advantage. I have more respect for myself than that.

By the way, I too am an engineering major and there is no way you can do so great at a UC without doing hw. Lower div’s and prereqs are doable without doing hw if you’re gifted but once you get to your structural analysis (indeterminate structures), probability / risk analysis, and the harder solid mechanics classes homework becomes essential.

PS. UCSD has more multicultural fraternities and clubs then every other UC.

Apparently with those very high test scores and considering your major, you will get into at least Cal or UCLA just need to finish your IGETC and required classes. However, for other private schools, you didn’t provide any ECs and such, so I couldn’t say will you get in or not.
Btw, if you are considered yourself minority, so should I also be :P. You have other 300mil Americans in your groups, whereas I have only a handful of thousands fellow international students in this country :D.

This is an obvious ■■■■■.

Hey I love to learn ,but just hate the tedious work that comes with it. “what are we talking about here? Practice, are you kidding me… practice. Not the game, but practice?.” - Allen Iverson

ohh and for the people who think I’m a ■■■■■, you might wanna look around collegeconfidential a bit more. You’ll be quiet suprised.

well people here are little more conservative.

Dude, you posted the exact same post twice in a different thread; you only have 9 total posts (most of them are in this thread alone). You are most likely ■■■■■■■■. Can someone please kill this thread now.
