So there’s also no point applying to Sophie Davis BSMD, then? I’m a bit confused

I don’t know about FDU/Lecom.

Where are you with the 5 SUNY apps, Rutgers, Rowan, NJIT, TCNJ? All done save the essay?

Finished my Common App essay, but have my supplements still to do. Probably submitting everything by next Thursday. Will finish all my supps this weekend or by Monday night

Also are you saying that I have a low chance for FDU/Lecom or there isn’t enough spots?

You should be applying to both Sophie Davis and the the Brooklyn College-SUNY Downstate BS/MD program and to the Brooklyn College-St. George’s (Granada) BS/MD program.

I hope you know how LECOM application works. You apply independently. You can apply to few (usually people do at least 3 schools with connection to LECOM. ) If you get to LECOM and those 3 schools give you good FA and any of the schools have spot for LECOM DO once you accepted, then you are in. There is a possibility that they all may be filled or none of them affordable. It is kind of complicated. Many things need to align.

Yes I understand that. Thank you

One more critical thing that we didn’t pay attention. LECOM requires only Natural Science majors. Dd wanted Psychology- not allowed. Sociology- not allowed. Allowed Neuroscience, Biochem, Chem, Bio, Physics. She started Neuro- was GPA killer due to mess in the department and very few dedicated professors in her school in that department. She had to switch to Chemistry (she is not big fan of Biology and Physics majors). Chemistry major required Calc, 2 Physics and Physical Chemistry in addition to LECOM requirements. She is very happy in Chem major (very good teachers.) I share this to highlight that LECOM is not easy premed program. Natural Science majors have a lot of difficult classes with ton of labs. Not easy to protect GPA. Another hurdle in small schools is registration. LECOM requires certain classes but feeder school does not guarantee availability. In our case it is impossible to register for Genetics, since it is not part of her major and has only 16 spots for all majors. So advisors trying to find what to do. To graduate she needs to satisfy all school requirements (each school has its own list), major requirements, and LECOM premed requirements. Some do not overlap. I am not trying to scare you. I am trying to show that program looks good on paper initially but it has a lot of “underwater obstacles” that students who apply do not realize.

Thank you, I was thinking of it because I know a person who’s currently in the program. He seems to love it though and told me I should apply

If you’re applying to accelerated/direct-entry med programs, are you applying to the ones at Rowan? 3+4 Medical Degree Programs Note that you must apply to the university by November 1st and then complete the program applications by December 1st.

Yes, and early December 1 deadlines at Sophie Davis and Brooklyn College as well.

Yep, applying to the one in Rowan, Sophie Davis, but I haven’t checked Brooklyn College. I still have to start supplementals so idk if I can do Brooklyn college

Also, does anyone have any ED schools that they would recommend? Other than Lafayette.

If a strong ED choice hasn’t emerged by now, it’s probably because you’re just not in a situation where it makes sense to apply ED.

In terms of full-need-met schools, it appears that the only ones that are clearly affordable are the rarified out-of-reach ones like Princeton.

It doesn’t make sense to submit a binding application to any school where the NPC doesn’t project solid affordability.

And you have your hands full with EA apps. Focus on that, and don’t apply anywhere binding; you need to be able to compare offers once you know your options.

What are your criteria -

You have budget issues - right? DId you run the NPC for Lafayette?

You have distance concerns too I believe - or do you now? I mean, there’s tons of great ones - whether Kenyon, Denison, Dickinson, Connecticut, Bucknell, etc. etc. but Lafayette was close to home, why I recommended it.

Is distance not an issue? Or an issue - but farther out? If so, how far?

For any, run the NPC.

Why would you want ED? That makes 0 sense.

I was going to note that. If you are happy to have choice - Rutgers, SUNY - you don’t need to ED. You shouldn’t ED. You should only ED if affordable and your top choice.

You mentioned Princeton. I thought it’s out of reach so recommended Lafayette. If you find others to apply to, you don’t need to ED and shouldn’t unless it’s affordable and an absolute - yes, this is where I want to be !!

It may increase odds to a reach, of course.
