In personal statement, I talked about becoming more confident and outgoing

In my essays, I talked a lot about using CS to address education equity issues in the world. Tried to create an application theme with that.

College List:

Rice (ED), USC, UVA, Georgia Tech, Northeastern, Santa Clara U, UMinn, ASU, BU, U of Rochester, UC Berkeley UC Davis, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCSC, SJSU, WashU, Harvey Mudd, Tufts

Which of these listed colleges do you think is your sure thing for admission? If ASU and you are happy with that option, then fine. Most of the rest of your list are reach schools, with a couple of targets.

Your issue is that you want to major on CS…and that is a more challenging admit at many places. And some of your schools are reaches regardless of the major.

@Gumbymom can tell you the acceptance rates for the CA colleges for CS.

Calculate your UC GPAs here:

https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

And CSU GPAs here:

You have a few acceptances on your list (ASU, UMN) for sure, SCU likely - And Rice ED is possible. So are others but those two are for sure and both are strong if affordable. I believe SJSU may be impacted by where you live.

Good luck.

Do you have cost constraints (that you talked with your parents about)?

If so, have you checked the net price calculator on the web site of each college?

If ASU is Arizona State University, it is a sure thing for admission if you meet the course requirements and GPA minimums (First-year admission requirements | Admission | ASU and https://degrees.apps.asu.edu/bachelors/major/ASU00/ESCSEBS/computer-science), but you may want to check what your cost will be at | Financial Aid & Scholarship Services .

Welcome to College Confidential. You are a competitive and very qualified applicant so you will have several school options in the Spring from which to choose.

As a California HS student, you are aware that the UC’s will not consider your SAT for admissions or scholarship consideration only for course placement.

Below are the most current CS admit rates that I could find along with the UC GPA’s for admitted students. Not all GPA ranges are specific for CS admits.

Campus CS
UC Berkeley 1.9%/ UC Capped weighted GPA 4.20-4.30 Campus UC unweighted 3.89-4.00 Campus Weighted uncapped 4.31-4.65
UC Davis 19% Selective Major/ UC Capped weighted GPA 4.19-4.30 Campus UC unweighted 3.80-4.00
UC Irvine 16.8% Impacted Major/ UC Capped weighted GPA 4.12-4.29 Campus UC unweighted 3.83-4.00
UCLA 3.1% Impacted Major/ Capped weighted GPA 4.25-4.32 Campus UC unweighted 3.90-4.00 CS Weighted Uncapped 4.62-4.87
UC Merced 90%/ UC Capped weighted GPA 3.59-4.15
UC Riverside 32% Impacted major/ UC Capped weighted GPA 4.03-4.28
UC San Diego 12% Selective Major /UC Capped weighted GPA 4.19-4.31
UC Santa Barbara 10% Impacted Major/ UC Capped weighted GPA 4.23-4.31
UC Santa Cruz 60% Impacted Major/UC Capped weighted GPA 3.96-4.26
San Jose State 31% Impacted Major/ A CSU of 4.3 needed to meet 2024 Impaction threshold without other factor points.

Best of luck to you.

would it admit be less challenging if i applied as Computer Engineering

Great, congratulations! Are both of those schools affordable?

I do not think so…but I’ll let @Gumbymom answer!

Congratulations on your two acceptances. You know you are going to college!

Congrats - two GREAT homes already (if affordable) - UMN will be $40K ish with the $15K merit you likely go and ASU somewhere in that range.

Honestly, two excellent programs and universities. So now you’re playing with house money on the rest.

Cal Poly SLO 18%/ SLO GPA 4.14-4.25
Cal State Long Beach 36%/ CSU GPA average 4.02
San Diego State 43%/ Campus GPA average 4.04
San Jose State Impaction index of 4680 needed a CSU GPA of 4.0+ and at least a Math GPA of 3.9+ to meet threshold.

Be aware that Minnesota does have secondary admission to major in the College of Science and Engineering. 3.2 college GPA is automatic admission, but lower than that means competitive admission.

Thank you! I am wondering if I have a chance at the other private universities on my list though.

thank you! some of my private schools don’t admit by major so it should be less competitive right?
