Haha It is like I’m a criminal now! But if this is what your rules say, I will abide by them. I will be back. @An_D I’ll send you a DM to let you know my new account. This is not over.
We appreciate your participation under your own account per the ToS. Thanks for your understanding.
This is much better I hope.
I’m not sure what is going on now. This post was opened up to tell people my results and get feedback on the majors I get in for.
It seems to have taken a turn. Can we please just keep this for updates.
I am sorry to have caused so much trouble in this. I will take this as a sign to take a break from this website. I feel I have especially harmed OP by taking attention away from the real topic and also bringing unneeded and false claims upon them. For this I apologize. Good luck to OP in future decisions and I hope your remember the advice that has been given to you.
Then it’s your sibling, with your mother commandeering the account.
And perhaps all of the OP’s relatives, including @damoneymom, can let the OP do all the talking here. The relatives can talk at the dinner table, where I won’t be. But clearly having so many family members chime in here is disruptive to the conversation flow and may have users who have been trying to help question the veracity of the thread.
I still think you should consider your in state option if a NMF. They are literally paying for smart kids.
All I got from Alabama was the 10k for the act. I’m not sure if that covers everything.
Looks like you’d get free tuition plus $2500 for the ACT.
They show tuition at $11,100 but the links should match your offer. If not call to get an explanation.
@tsbna44 I’m a little unclear, but if this student is a NMF, wouldn’t they get a HUGE merit award from Alabama?
I looked back to post one. There’s 935.
I didn’t see that. If they are NMF and name the school tops then it’s just crazy great. I just went with the gpa and test one which should be full tuition plus 2500 for engineering.
- Value of tuition for up to five years or 10 semesters for degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate or law studies
- Four years of undergraduate on-campus housing at regular room rate* (based on assignment by Housing and Residential Communities)
- $3,500 per year undergraduate supplemental scholarship for four years**
- $2,000 one-time allowance for use in research or international study (after completing one year of study at UA)
- $500 per year Supe Store book scholarship for four years
Are you a national merit finalist?
I am not
Congrats on your admissions so far! It appears from upthread you would rather keep the financial part out of it and leave that to your family.
There is nothing wrong with that, just focus on fit for you and options in your desired course of study, and try to mentally start figuring out which schools would be best for you so far, and then start getting excited about the top choice or choices you currently have! There are a lot of RD decisions left, and one of those reaches might just work out, but focus on getting excited about the current “birds in-the hand.”
Your stats get you full tuition - it’s not listed as a dollar amount but as “tuition.”
Here’s the chart:
If you scroll down, there are also competitive scholarships that you should definitely try for. I’m not sure if they would stack.
But tuition wouldn’t be the same as cost of attendance right? So technically it would not be for free right. This is the part I’m confused about.
You get free tuition plus an additional $2500 for being in the college of engineering and having a 30 ACT. So that money will apply to housing, food etc.
Your letter should not note $10k.
Free tuition is a fantastic deal vs $40-60k at others.
Doesn’t mean you should take it. That’s a family call.
But zillions dream of that plus another $2500 for fun. Toward housing, food etc.
While you said to not discuss money, it’s why initially when you gave a very low budget people were pushing this way. It crushes your initial budget.
It’s a killer deal. Up to you and family whether to take it or not but don’t look at Bama as a safety. Look it as - I’m a stud and they showed the love !! Like many, they want to buy you in!! Not everyone gets this love. And I’ve seen the proof of high paying jobs.
Let us know how any visits to the new admits go and where you ultimatey land.
Cost of attendance includes tuition, fees, room and board, books and expenses. It is the total cost to attend.
Correct, it is not what’s called a full ride. A full ride covers all the expenses (except, like, transportation and trips to Dunkin, haha). If you get a full ride somewhere, take it!!!
This one at Bama is full tuition. It will cover the cost of tuition (and fees, I think), even if tuition increases in future years, and it very likely will.
A straight dollar amount scholarship does not increase in future years when the school’s costs go up. This is why we pressed you on what exactly Bama offered you. Full tuition is much better than $9,000 or $10,000, even if that appears to cover the cost of tuition this year.
My kid had a full tuition scholarship to a “lesser” state flagship (WVU, not Bama). Costs went up every year. She graduated on time, with one $5,500 student loan that she took out in the first year to cover her part of housing (we covered the rest).
She has a perfectly good degree that she is now using, getting jobs in her field. She has friends she works with who have a lot of debt. They envy her. The debt might not seem real now, but believe me, it becomes very real six months after graduation when the first bill arrives.
I went to grad school at UF and was still paying off student loans in my 40s. IN MY FORTIES. You do not want this albatross.
