Right, he does, if he declares engineering as his major by May 1.
There are also other competitive scholarships, but I’m not sure they all stack. The $2.5k engineering one definitely does.
The Prestige one does also, as my son’s GF has it, along with the tuition+housing one for a perfect test score and a 4.0.
so if R&B and other fees are $15K, he’s getting four years of school at $12.5K net or $50K total.
That’s pretty sweet.
And he’s still going to come out with a similar type job - if last year was any indiciation.
Don’t forget student has Auburn too - and not sure if applied to UAH - but he’ll have great offers if finances do end up playing a part which they initially did - but now we don’t know.
@Gatormama - i couldn’t imagine debt into the 40s. That’s a great story and great advice - it really is strangling I’m sure.
My son has the NMF scholarship and it covers tuition. But it does not cover fees. I’d expect this one to just be tuition as well. Fees are $27/credit.
Tuition is nice because it’s a flat rate up to 16 credits and people with $ value scholarships are often surprised with extra charges for credits 17+. Tuition really is tuition. My son has 18 credits and it’s all covered.
hey - just want to say that this is a crazy time; with ups and downs - but everything is going to turn out ok. Stay on your course, get your degree, and go live your life!
i understand wanting to go to school in another state; something with more prestige. We live in the midwest - my 2020 kiddo wanted something other than cornfields. We have 4 kids and told him what we could afford; and he chose to go to Bama. Not prestigious, but he liked the warmer winter weather . . . and football. We paid R&B for him.
he’s graduating in may with an engineering degree. . . . no loans . . . . recent job offer (in a high cost of living area) was $115K plus signing bonus. Not in any way trying to push Bama; but trying to show you that what you study and do in college – especially in engineering – means just as much as the name of the college.
I dont know of anyone who doesnt like the idea of a prestigious school. But – that fades quickly, and the costs associated with the school (unless uber wealthy or very low income) can really affect your lifestyle upon graduating.
good luck with this all - good job on acceptances – keep thinking about all the things mentioned here!
I recently got my Alabama Scholarship. It was around 68k. I don’t understand if it is for 4 years or just for one year. COA is around <30k for instate I think. Does what mean they pay me back 38k? Can anyone please clarify. Thank you.
You can ask them - it’s not $68K a year. The auto merit table shows you’d get full tuition - so not sure the amount you are quoting.
Call admissions and ask for an explanation.
But in theory, you’d be on the hook for room and board. But you’d get $2500 thanks to your 30+ ACT and major in engineering - so really tuition + $2500.
