Middle-middle class suburban background
I’d be happy for anyone to give me an appraisal of my chances of admission given this info.
You sound like you are at the right level to apply to these schools. It’s gonna come down to essays and interviews. Definitely go to as many interviews as you possibly can. Those will push you over the edge. Good luck!
I agree with the first two posters. You are definitely qualified, but you didn’t say which schools and programs you want to apply to. If you’re going to apply to the Ivies or other top-tier schools (which I’m assuming you will), you have to hit your interviews and essays out of the ballpark. Make the admissions committee realize that you are the right fit for their school. Additionally, I strongly recommend you apply to some state schools where you know you can definitely fit right in and maybe even get a full-ride.
One last thing, if I remember correctly, the ACT isn’t superscored in college applications. However, you should run by the application and see what their ACT score policy is.
@JMS357 and @Gumbymom I am applying to Dartmouth, Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, UCLA, UCSD, UC Berkeley, and my state school, the University of Utah. I’ve been considering applying to ASU and Utah State University for extra safeties. My plan is to shoot for those higher ranked schools and if I miss then attend the UU honors college full ride.
I am currently am undecided in exactly which programs I want to apply to, though I am leaning towards a major in history, political science and government, or foreign affairs.
Are there financial constraints? Although you are a competitive and very qualified applicant, the UC’s (UCLA/UCB/UCSD) offer little to no financial aid (need-based or merit) for out of state students. You should expect to pay close to $60K/year to attend.

@Gumbymom Yes there are. I do have some reservations about applying to those schools as such, but I’d rather have them as an option in case I don’t get into the more Ivy-ish schools.
