Chance me at Brown pleaseee?

I’m going to be applying next year for the Class of 2016. Brown is absolutely my dream school. I’m a junior but I want to make sure I’m doing everything I can to get into Brown, interview and the whole shabang. I would be most likely going for psychology and theatre studies.
But on to the chance, your GPA is somewhat on the lower edge (in comparison to 3.85’s-4.0’s). Although your SAT/ACT are also in range, you should improve on them to get a 2200/33, putting you in a prime score range. Other than that, you show a strong inclination towards theater, and coupled with your stats, I’m sure Brown may be able to recognize some sort of talent. I’d say a Middle High Reach (not full high reach, nor just reach).

I would spend a lot of time on essays and learn as much about the school as possible. My son was waitlisted with a 35 on his ACT and 4.0 UW GPA and many EC’s.

@lion that isnt my whole full name thats my first name. thanks.

It’s LIONS. HONORLIONS.

Sorry HONORLIONS.

I also visited Yale and Amherst College over break. Of the four colleges I visited, those were the two that didn’t use the phrase “just like high school” to describe their classes and I’m positive that that is what I am lookig for in a college. Can anyone chance me on those two and lead me towards other colleges that have more rigor in their academics? Thanks so much for replying =D

I wish my classes were more like high school. But that’s more a comment on my high school than Brown.

I don’t do chances, but…more rigor in academics than what? One can make one’s schedule at Brown nearly arbitrarily difficult if one wants. I’d imagine the same is true of many of the top colleges.

Sorry I reread that and it wasn’t clear what I meant at all haha. I meant that I want other colleges that have the same rigor as Brown, because Brown, Yale, Amherst, etc are more rigorous than, say, certain state schools in my opinion, just because of their schlolarly nature. I need to be somewhere where the kids honestly work their butts off and enjoy being academic. I hope this doesn’t sound offensive…I can’t tell if it is or not.

Also, the four colleges I visited over break did not include Brown…so no, Brown did not describe their classes as being jsut like high school.

hmmmmm. I don’t know. YOu have yet to cure cancer and have not taken the required 50 APs.

@borfius, someones been reading the facebook group :)

I think you’ll do fine. Just work on your essay for awhile, put lot’s of time into it. I made the mistake of writing it the day before it was due, I still got into Brown, but I felt like I could have made my essay better. SAT’s don’t really mean as much as people tell you. When I went to ADOCH a couple weeks ago (the open house for regular decision accepted Brown Students) I learned a lot from the students there that the SAT is kind of a stupid test and Brown doesn’t rely as heavily on it as say HYPS. When I went to UPENN’s and Yale’s I got the feeling that the SAT mattered a bit more compared to Brown. Brown seems to really put more emphasis on diversity and personal character and I liked that. So I’ll be at Brown this fall ^_^.
My best friend got in and he had an SAT of 2010 and no ACT (He also got into Princeton so it’s not like Brown is a “lesser” school). I don’t have any alumni relations and neither did my friend so don’t worry about that. For Brown really show them that you want to and are up to the task of designing your own education. Even if you’re not sure what you want to do show them that you can handle finding out what you want to do and succeeding at it once you discover it. Even though Brown has no core curriculum or required classes quite a few students there take classes out of their concentration(s) and it often resembles the core classes of say Columbia (which has a very well made core curriculum) or the required courses of Yale. You don’t need to learn about Homer and Sophocles but if you go to Brown the resources are there and most Brown students are curious enough to want to try it out. And since they aren’t forced to take it they will probably learn the material better and the professors will teach better because everyone is there on their own will. So if you understand that, believe in it, and have a good way to convey it to admissions, you’ve got a good shot I’d say =)
