<p>Hi, this is my first post here but I’ve been scanning the forums for a while. The reason I self studied so many subjects was because my school is pretty “ghetto” and doesn’t offer many AP classes. I’m very interested in Biology although I’m not sure what I’ll major in just yet. Please chance me =]</p>

<p>Pretty damn impressive stats. How do you know that you’re a National Merit Semifinalist already?</p>

<p>I’d say you have a good as shot as any for the elite schools. UVA would be a definite safety for you were you instate, but your OOS chances are only marginally higher. Good luck.</p>

<p>Your state and school location sets you apart. If you didnt have those I’d say you’d look just like another HYPS applicant, but the fact that you went to a bad public AND are from Hawaii is excellent. I’d say you have a better than average shot at HYPS</p>

<p>I’m not really sure what I would want to major in. I really like history, but there aren’t many jobs for historians…I also really like Biology (as you can see from the self study 5, 800, and USABO Semifinalist). As a kid I always told myself I’d be an engineer I dunno why though lol. Maybe Biomedical Engineer? lol I dunno. I’m sure I’ll know after a year or two in college though =]</p>

<p>If you’re considering engineering, Stanford, UC Berkeley or MIT are stronger engineering schools than HYP.</p>
