Letters of recommendation are not EC’s. And unless they are from teachers who have taught you, are likely to be ignored by NYU– or at a minimum, put in the “isn’t that nice” category.
My main goal is to manage my own hedge fund, I should say that these LORs are from mentors, and I have extensive notes taken from calls, real time experiences, etc. NYU Stern is likely the best gateway school for me, especially because I love NYC, and JPM investment banking hands out a large majority of the internships to Stern.
Nobody hands out anything. Every internship is earned.
That said- Stern has a strong reputation in financial circles- along with another 20 or so colleges. However, it is an academic institution, not an apprenticeship program for Wall Street or JPM.
So emphasizing your “not gunning for a job at a hedge fund” interests is likely to be a more successful strategy for you.
I have made enough trading to pay for college, unfortunately, IB internships (especially at firms like Goldman Sachs or JPM) depend heavily on the school you go to. I believe something like 0.2% of the internships are given at on target schools. NYU is simply the best option for me and my goals.
NYU costs $100K per year. Have you made $400K trading/have an investment account worth at least that much? Or will you also be applying for financial aid? Run NYU’s NPC to see if you would get any FA.
But if you have $400K sitting in your investment account, you won’t qualify for any aid, regardless your parents’ financial situation. (student assets are assessed at a much higher rate than parents’)
You do need one counselor or teacher Letter of Rec. Do you have that?
Yep! I have made slightly over 310,000 trading.. My parents are able to cover the rest. Im doing ED1 no financial aid, my counselor is writing my letter of recommendation, and yes it is HL math AA.
