I am currently a junior at a catholic high school. I have ADD that was diagnosed the second half of sophomore year, and my grades have suffered because of it. My grades are still decent, and i will graduate top 25% of my class (even though my school doesn’t rank) and I have taken the most rigorous classes. There is not another set of courses that I know of that is more rigorous than the classes I have taken, am taking and will take my senior year.
In addition, my ACT is good. I scored a 34 composite and 35 superscore. I got a perfect score in reading and only one point off in both english and math (superscored).
My extracurriculars will be great, and I will graduate from various honor societies at my school. My recommendations will also be good, and my essays will be excellent. I also plan on applying Early Decision. What I’m really worried about is my relatively low GPA/class rank and how it will affect me.
You definitely have a shot with a 35 on the ACT. You are above the 75% with that ACT score (their middle 50% is 30-34). Is your GPA above 3.7? 3.7 is at their 25%. Do all you can to inch that GPA up. Your strength of classes is good. Good luck.
The way catholic schools do GPA is kinda weird, I have a 3.66 uw and a 3.81 w. But the multiplier for honors is only X 1.05 and for AP is only X 1.08 (meaning that whatever percentage you get in the class is multiplied by those factors to get your weighted GPA). What do you mean by a 3.7 is their 25%? Thanks so much
People are typically interested in the 25-75% range, or the middle 50% for a given college. For Williams, their middle 50% for ACT score is 30-34 with 30 being the 25% range and 34 being the 75% range. You are above that. For GPA, their middle 50% range looks like this - 25% is 3.7. 75% is 3.94. Go get into a school when you are below their 25% range, you need to have something extra special. For you, it’s that ACT score. For others it might be that they are an athlete or won a national academic award or have some other amazing EC that they can bring to enhance the campus.
