Getting into Boston college and Boston University with your stats is going to be almost impossible. According to their freshman stats, the average sat score was a 1410 and a gpa equivalent to it (around 3.8-3.9 unweighted). Your gpa is much lower than Boston college students as well as your sat score. Also, having no ap classes is going to make it even harder. Unless you’re a legacy student or have credible reasons for your stats, I would aim lower.
Boston college/university are reach schools, Babson is also a reach school but the average GPA is a 3.5-3.75 so I thought that I might have a chance
I think you have a chance.
My brother and my son attended BC. They loved it. My son was in
the business school.
- First generation is awesome! Your family must be so proud! It’s also a great feature that will make up for any minor glitch in yourselves GPA.
You have 2. substantial outside interests, which is great! My son in law is an admission’s director at a West Coast University has read thousands of applications and said a fresh perspective and 3. well written essay can tip the scales. for a student. He also stressed how important it is to have well written, thoughtful 4. recommendations, making certain that they are from adults who know you well and can speak both honestly and anecdotally to your strengths.
If BC comes to your school, be sure to 5. connect with their representative. Ask questions, write a thank you. See if you can arrange to meet an alumni in the area. Again, ask questions and send a thank you. The same thing goes for any visits to the campus. Be organized and make a list of good questions, not ones that can be answered by reading the website. Oh, and read the website.
Then just focus on bringing up your 6. SAT score, it may mean everything if there are any automated cut offs.
BC may be a reach school but you have a lot going for you.
Good Luck!
BTW, There’s also a number of 1st generation scholarships (not specific to BC) you might look up.
I would like to update this thread, I got rejected from BC/BU but I got into Babson! Thank you to everyone on this site for the help!!
Babson is an incredible opportunity!!! Congratulations! Make the most of it.
And don’t ignore those engineers next door. Get to know them.
Congratulations on getting into Babson! It has the prospect of changing your life and earning power. A Georgetown Center for Workforce looked at college student salaries long term and Babson ranked in the top 10 in the NATION. So as a first gen, the power of a Babson degree will change your life. And it will be an experience you can immerse yourself in and enjoy. Congrats again!
OP would have had to make a decision a while ago. Closing thread.
