chance me BAGABABGA zuzu choochoo

that was probably the most bizarre thing i’ve typed to get anyone’s attention. first off, thanks for taking 5-10min out of your life to read one of many chance me posts. again, thank you so much for indirectly calming my nerves down by responding to this post.

introduction: i am a korean that came to america when i was 8. if my perception of what first gen is, i am one lol. I live in GA and hope to get the hell out of GA asap. incoming copy/paste resume:

(YOU DO NOT NEED TO READ BACKGROUND, STR, WEAKNESS portion)

Background Information
•I came from South Korea when I was about 8 years old (1997). I never liked school, and I have had my share of peer pressures, wrong friends, and bad habits. It was in my 8th grade summer when my parents asked me to work at their deli store because they could not find an extra employee. Seeing my parents work for 8-12hours from Monday through Friday, I realized how immature and ■■■■■■■■ I was. They worked for countless hours so that I can slack off and hang with the cool people. Beginning of Freshman year, I tried as hard as I could in school. My grades are not a reflection of how smart I am, but a reflection of how hard my parents work to provide my sister and me education. As much as I do not want to sound superior, my sister does not try in school. So my goal this year is to receive as many scholarships as I can and serve in the military so that my parents can use their hard-earned money for my sister.

Strengths
•I am sociable, determined, self-motivated, sarcastic, and humorous. I enjoy thinking about going beyond a given problem in order to apply it to real life situations. Because of how I was raised and grew up in America, I have a desire to empathize with people of unfortunate backgrounds and to help them as much as possible. I might not donate thousands of dollars or volunteer at a hospital everyday, but I approach small problems with a solid purpose: to help for the sake of helping because I know what it feels like to be at the very bottom. I clean my house not because I want the house to look clean, but because it is disrespectful to let a 45-year-old woman clean the house when I am on the computer doing homework. She works from 10am to 10pm, and the least I can do is use 2 hours of my life to repay the inestimable debt I owe to her. I help with the groceries for random elders because I know I am capable of spending 30 seconds to lift a bag, which an elder has trouble lifting. I can care less about how grand and special one’s good deeds are. It is the purpose where one’s true intentions are.

Weaknesses
•I am neither the smartest nor the brightest student alive. I cannot remember things well and I outright suck at grammar and literature. But I am proud to say that I try as hard as I can in everything I do. I am a rather modest and nervous type so I study to the point where it brings my grade down. I cannot read a book for 30 minutes unless it is worth my time and interest. Because my fear in life is letting others down, I become rash, crazy, and blinded to dangers when I let others down.

I remember reading another post by you, and I still don’t think cleaning your room makes you a better college applicant.

It’s like trying to solve world hunger by cleaning up the dinner table and washing your plate, it doesn’t show initiative or thought. Are you going to contribute to your college by brushing your teeth? Sure, anyone can appreciate good breath, but that’s about it.

If that’s what comes out in your college essays, you might be in for a rude awakening.

Aside from that, your grades are very strong, but the SAT’s are slightly below average for Cornell, UMich and JHU. Your EC’s are alright, but Most Attractive and Student of the Month don’t count for much, particularly the former.

I don’t know much about the other schools, but it’s going to take strong essays to win over the admissions office for the aforementioned.

first off, thanks shinjin for the fast/constructive response. second, i never intended to come off as if cleaning my room would make me a better applicant. i just wanted to show a little more about me because these chance me posts are rather bland when it comes to describing one’s personality. i’m truly sorry if my approach to elucidating my qualities rather offended how you weigh good applicants.

solutions to solving world hunger or any other bs in this world are general and vague. for instance, one can earn tips for cleaning dinner table and washing plats so that he/she can donate to a charity. please do not assume that these intentions are thoughtless and whimsical if you do not want to offend people that actually earn tips via menial work for donation. again, thanks for your prospective and response.
