I don’t have a clue about my chances as I’m the first one from my high school to apply to American colleges.

I was wondering if you guys would be kind enough to chance me…

SAT I : 590 CR 550 M 520 W
TOEFL: 106 / 120
SAT II : 770 French 610 World History
Teacher Rec: Good
Counselor Rec : Good
Essay: about how I could add to and benefit from the diversity on campus because of my strong interest for home-grown culture and my open-view towards other cultures.

Ec’s: Few years student council, soccer in club team, synthesizer, electric guitar, helping disabbled children, president of little art appreciation group, going to folk music camps,…

GPA : 75% ( which means I’m in the top 20 % percent of my class )

I’m not sure what you people are looking at, but the SAT scores are well below the 25th percentile and I assume 75% put’s it at a 3.0 (weighted/unweighted?) GPA.
Definitely a reach.

I don’t know about the Belgian education system, but I do know that for France, a 15/20 average (=75%) is considered pretty good, considering a 16/20 gets you “very good” mention on the baccalaureate exam. Just saying.

So if your essays and recommendations are good, I think you have a pretty good shot at getting in.

No, I’m not applying to BU, but it was one of the colleges that was on my list until about the very last minute. I did end up applying to Northeastern though. What other colleges are you applying to? Good luck with everything!

NYU (still waiting)
BU ( still waiting)
Northeastern ( rejection)
University of Denver ( accepted)
University of San Francisco ( accepted )
Syracuse University ( accepted )

I agree with the talk of your SAT score, might be difficult.
But your ECs look great and you look like a very interesting candidate.
Good luck :)

Congrats on the acceptances! I applied and got accepted to UCLA, UCSD, Northeastern, USC, UT Austin and UIUC, waitlisted at UChicago and still waiting from UC Berkeley, HMC, Northwestern, UCSB, CMC and JHU. (I know, I applied to a lot, but a lot of them were reaches, so that was why.)

I’m international too by the way. Only, from China, though I have a French passport.
