I have a 3.42 uw gpa, 1320 sat and 29 act(I retook it but haven’t gotten my results back yet, the first time I took it my calculator died). My freshman year was pretty rough, I didn’t fail any classes but I got Cs and Bs mainly. Since then I’ve mainly been going up, I had a 2.7 gpa in 9th grade so I think I’ve made some improvements. I do a middle college program so since winter semester tenth grade I’ve been taking college classes. My school doesn’t do rankings or anything like that. My extra curriculars are kind of lacking, I did a summer study abroad in argentina for two months with a reputable company(YFU), and I’m in two clubs, one of which I’m the founder and leader of. I worked at Mcdonalds for a year, starting in 10th grade until the beginning of 11th grade, and I currently work at a supermarket. I am a black female in senior year.
I have to admit, I feel like a lot of the schools I want to apply to are reaches, but it may be because I’m extremely insecure since I’m not exactly a star student, although I’ve been getting all As and A-‘s for two, three semesters.
My schools:
Boston university
George Washington university
Kalamazoo college
Reed college
Williams college
Temple university
Ohio state university
Howard university
New York University
Thank you in advance!(although I will thank you afterwards if you chance me)
I forgot to add, my major is either business administration or anthropology, or Spanish/linguistics if anthropology isn’t offered.
I also made the Dean’s list in my winter semester of 11th grade(a little late but first time for everything). My school does NOT offer AP or IB classes, we are on a community college campus and have full time college class schedules(after 9th grade or so). Bc I’m essentially a LA major, I haven’t taken any chem or calculus classes; I’m an English kid, my math skills are kind of limited to algebra
When I graduate, I will be graduating with a Global Studies Transfer Associates Degree.
These schools have few common denominators. While all good schools, it isn’t clear how you came up with this list. I would suggest you think more about what you are looking for in a school and add some safeties to your list
Hi Mintwood, my safeties are central Michigan university and grand valley university (I live in Michigan), I also applied to Michigan state but I haven’t gotten a response yet. What attracted me to the other schools are several reasons, but the main ones are that besides Kalamazoo, Reed and Williams, they’re all large and public. For the most part I want to go somewhere with a lot of people and good public transport, and most of those colleges have it. Reed and Williams are private and small, but the type of people who would go there(quirky weirdos) really attracts me and I think I’d fit in well. Also, every single one of them has sent me countless pieces of mail, which I’ve been told means something(please correct me if I’m wrong, I’m sick of colleges harassing me). They also all offer a major or two that I’m interested in, such as anthropology, business administration, linguistics, or international relations. Most of them offer decent study abroad programs as well.
@saavystar Reed, Williams and Kalamazoo don’t offer business administration as a major (although plenty of their graduates go on to work in the private sector). I believe that with your stats both of these schools would be a reach, and I would not read too much into your likelihood of admission by the fact that these schools sent you marketing material. However, if you have done your your research and feel these schools would be a good fit for you, you should definitely applyt
