hmm well, unfortunetely i don’t think you have a chance at HPME, PLME, PPSP or Rice/Baylor…unless ur GPA and SAT/ACT go up (especially ur GPA.) As for USC, I am no one to determine that as I know almost nothing about the program. Your ECs are alrite (even though u beast tennis, ur medical ECs are lacking. the ones you have such as shadowing is so common within the application pool.) However, your research is quite intense (hope you have suffiecient proof!) I would say better fit programs for you using your current stats would be Sienna/AMC, Union/AMC, Lehigh/Drexel, Drexel/Drexel, etc.

whats ur name man? im a highly ranked tennis player too. top 40 southern california and top 250 nationally. pm me

IMO you have a really good shot at USC. USC is less based on medical experience and community service, sorta like how a normal college admissions would be. while you do have lots of med experience and community service, your other accomplishments will shine most for USC’s program.

but idk about the GPA SAT/ACT part. these days there really is no excuse not to get a 4.0 UW, and im sure you would improve your SAT (although your ACT may be good enough…i dont know anything about “good” ACT scores).

I kind of agree with tennisboy’s assessment about USC. The program isn’t necessarily less based on medical experience but it does evaluate more the personality behind the doctor wannabe rather that his/her accomplishments in the science and/or medical field. With that said, they do look for more academics, so all the tennis achievements you have probably won’t work much in your favor, though they won’t work against you. You seem really involved, but are there any leadership positions that you have? Those could help a lot more than being nationally ranked in tennis.

On the flipside, I think you have a great shot at MSU. Your stats are really strong and you’re instate, so you’ve definitely got a good chance. Spend a lot of time on the essays, though, because those make or break your interview invite.

“these days there really is no excuse not to get a 4.0 UW” nothing buy “A”?

Your GPA and scores are kinda low for the med programs you refer to.

Most med programs only look at your numbers, and your medical e.c’s.

I’m in the USC program, and I would think that you have a good shot for that, assuming you bring up your scores (GPA). They are more holistic, in that they look at all your e.c’s.

Also, any chance you can get recruited to play tennis?

yes, zdzjdl, all A’s in all of your classes. nearly everyone competitive applicant these days has all A’s, so not having a 4.0 (or super close to 4.0) will crush you.

I don’t about Brown, but u got a solid chance at all little lower the schools. You have medical EC’s , and ur ressearch should carry weight. Everything else looks fine. Go for it. Good luck, I’m applying to some mysefl.

Can you provide data to back this up?

that statement is completely false. you do not need to have a near perfect 4.0 to get into one of these programs. its the whole package, and as long as ur GPA is not HORRIFIC and its like 3.7+, then your fine

he wont be able to get recruited for usc i can guarantee that

this is a question for anyone. a lot of you mentioned medical EC’s. what medical ECs would work? do you mean clubs, etc?

Medical ECs come in many forms. This could be clinical-level research, volunteering at a hospital where you have contact with patients and not just filing papers, shadowing physicians, and EMT work (if you’re certified).

u have the medical ec’s. dont worry about that. u have a pretty good shot just not too much leadership

his GPA is unweighted tho – no cap on 4.0
therefore his weighted courses should give him a boost (for an A) or at least a 4.0 (if B)

goshhh guys obviously you DONT need a 4.0 but it certainly helps given the fact that most people have such high GPAs nowadays.

i admit i made kind of a strong statement but im a bit biased since every mediocre kid at my school ends up having a 4.0 UW, making it seem like its totally necessary.

I think schools are actually starting to look past the GPAs and look at the rigor or your classes. I mean, I got Bs in AP Chemistry and AP Calculus BC and I still got into a medical program, and those are clearly two classes one should probably do well in, lmao.

hey tennisboy1005, i got a couple questions. first, why do u think that i cant get recruited at USC? do u play there or something? second, why did u say i dont have leadership? i even listed my leadership. is it not enough?

novitennis are u currently a sophomore or junior?
