Essays/LORs/Other

  • I think my essays will be pretty good. The teacher I’ve been working with thought my CommonApp essay was strong.
  • I predict at least one of my letters will be very strong. I have three LORs and all are meaningful (i.e. they are people who genuinely know me and can speak to relevant information)

(Although this post is about Bryn Mawr, some other schools I’m really interested in are Penn, BU, Smith, Barnard… Though I also think my chances are pretty slim and I am pushing it.)

Do you have any cost constraints? If so, have you and your parents used the net price calculator on each college on your list?

I’m not one of the many “chancers” here, but my daughter is interested in Bryn Mawr & Haverford, so I’ve been looking at the schools.

You look like you have a great profile! The only thing I noticed was that maybe you were missing a math class (geometry), and Bryn Mawr “recommends” 4 years of language (also 4 years of science) in their common data set. If you didn’t have the ability to take more Spanish, then it’s probably no worry at all, but just noting it from what I saw in the CDS. For what it’s worth, they also recommend two years of computer science, so I suspect that it’s not something that they hold many students to.

Could be that the OP was two grade levels ahead in math and had algebra 1 and geometry while in middle school.

Science looks unusual, with chemistry and two physics courses, but no biology.

I’d also just note that seems low on languages.

Otherwise, you definitely seem competitive for Bryn Mawr.

In terms of other colleges, have you looked at Mount Holyoke? Obviously another women’s college, great Gothic campus, and a very popular undergrad Philosophy program. Part of the Five Colleges consortium along with Smith.

Another LAC I would think you could consider is Connecticut College. Again, they have a relatively popular and diverse Philosophy program, and a Gothic core to their campus. I also think New London is a cool small city.
