Knicks,

Read my posts on the thread “Help a brotha out” for the standardized score ranges for Middle 50% of First Year NYU students. You are not even at the lower end of the range for SAT I scores. Perhaps you should focus on the ACT and get that up to at least 27 (with the Writing Part to be taken).

Your unweighted GPA shows that you are in the range for NYU CAS. However, have you taken the most difficult course offered at your special ed H.S.? That would factor into how truly strong your GPA is.

You seem to be a student who is working hard, despite some weakness in taking standardized tests.

It is important that you show that you can handle college level classwork even with the special need(s) you have. This is where your grades would matter since they show your work habits and ability to do work on a regular basis.

Of course, colleges have support for students who have special needs. Perhaps it would be good for you to write about how you can capitalize on opportunities and seek support where appropriate. Also, maybe some mention of what you know are your limitations and how you have worked to overcome in spite of the obstacles.

Some strong teacher recommendations acknowledging your abilities (consistent with the demands of a college curriculum) and your attempts to work with your limitations can offer strong support for your ability to overcome and do well with academic work (or specific academic topics).

I congratulate you on what you have accomplished grade-wise with your many ECS while holding a job.

Bump
I got my Oct. score today 1850
590 CR
610 W
650 M
Better Chances?

Good job on raising the scores! And yes, you have improved your chances. Good luck! :)
