Chance me: chances to get into GLADCHEMMS

I am an 8th grader applying for ninth. I attend one of the best private schools in the DC, MD, VG district. I am an Asian female immigrant. My grades are mostly A’s and some occasional B’s. My ssat score was 99% percentile. My top school is preferably Hotckiss.

Clubs/EC: Co-Founder of AAPI affinity group, Have done art for around 9 years. I have around 10 hours of community service. Have done competitive lacrosee for 5 years and club volleyball for 1.

Classes: Algebra 1 (Geometry is offered but I don’t take it. I get all A+’s in this class though), Spanish 3 (My worst class grade wise), US history, Chem

Essays: My grades for english writing were good, and my personal essay talked about the challenges of trying to integrate into the American culture (I think).

Not applying for financial, very good rec (Except maybe history), and I also attended the Hotchkiss summer program

From what you explained you seem like a credible candidate, but then reportedly the decisive conversation they will have will focus on how they think you would fit into and contribute to their school community. In that context they will be considering the details of your recommendations, interview, and essays, along with the other things you described. And part of the context will also be the other applicants they are considering this year.

Since we don’t have all that information, we can’t really predict how that conversation will go, and it isn’t really possible to give you a meaningful chance of admissions. Again, it is good you seem like a generally credible candidate, but beyond that I think it is just a matter of waiting and seeing at this point.

One question that the AdCom may have for you is how to reconcile the high SSAT scores with your grades. Can you articulate in your essays how you think about this difference? They may wonder whether you would be able to excel academically in a rigorous environment far from home.

Given your current academic environment, they may also want to understand why you’d like to go to boarding school. Have you given thought to how you’d articulate this?

You should be excited about March 10 as you are a strong candidate. Nevertheless, if you are intent on attending boarding school during your high school years, you should apply to several schools (as the title of your post indicates).

Be sure to share specific reasons for applying to each particular school.
